And they have the gall to ask why we NEED .50cal with API.
Shouldn't something like that only belong on the battlefield?

What the hell??
Who's going in on an MRAP with me?
If this is the same tank, this video is timestamped 4/3/11

That tank has been around for a while.
Who does the Sheriff need to go to war against?
probably bought with the homeland security funding
probably collecting mothballs
Those cows in Nevada are going to get off that ranch one way or another.
They put it on the flat bed to reduce wear and tear on the vehicle and the pavement.
"Weapons of war have no place on our streets"
Fucking hypocrisy....
It isn't a tank. It is a M113 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC), a 11 ton aluminum can on treads. I was a driver for one way back in the day as an 11B before the Bradley's came to us in Germany.
Yep, worked on them for 7 years in the Army.
Tank, hahaha, uhhh, NO !!
Cant' they get to where they need to go in Suburbans? Tea Partiers are looking more attractive to me.
They should be able to boot a lot of scofflaw parking ne're do wells with their new G ride.
for going up against civilians it might as well be a tank
Btw a 50 will only leave a golfball sized divots in these things. You roughly need to stack two shoots or put 3 shoots in a 1.5 inch group to penetrate the armor. That's just my experience.
These are the most common APC in the world but I agree a police dept doesn't need them. Most third world military's are buying our surplus up but they are used for actually military operations.
heh, how about a 4 pound BP cannon? :) Not a lot of 20mm+ floating around for civvies, probably more cannons.
reinforces my point that for police use it might as well be a modern tank
Let's hope the Sheriff bought this just in case SHTF so he can help the good guys. Hey, its a possibility. We still have a few good Sheriffs in CO.
The second they roll it out against civilians, they join the bad guys.
They actually used this thing against a man barricaded in a house in south Lakewood a few years back...ran it through the wall, dropped the rear ramp, jumped out and arrested him. The house was a rental.
I knew they have had it awhile but hadn't heard about that. So much for my hopes.
Of course the sheriff needs it. There might be a rancher grazing his cattle on land the BLM wants to preserve for some mouse or tortoise or something.
Wow....lot of pot money rolling in apparently.
The video shows it cruising down the street at a decent speed.
M114's can pick up their heels quite a bit. Aluminum cans basically.
Only hits about 40-45 mph in the right conditions. The treads looked different and sounded more rubbery than our old ones.

The tracks we used were metal with a replaceable rubber pad in the middle. It looked as though the entire track shoe is rubberized.

Lots of soley rubber treads for tracked vehicles come out of Isreal. As was already stated, the metal and metal with rubber tracks chew up pavement like nobodies business so they typically get replaced with the full rubber tracks.
Definitely not a tank. They are very old and outdated. Never actually saw one in person, my units had all gotten rid of them. Even when I got to the guard. It appears that JeffCo bought one the ones we got rid of.
Lets see.
Gun turret - check (just because it is unmounted does not mean there is no gun/firehose/Active Area Denial system)
Enough armor to stop anything the enemy has - check
Looks like a tank to me.
I know in military terms it is not a tank, it is an obsolete target. In civilian terms it is a tank.
