Anyone know the best way to file a complaint about my postal carrier where it will actually do some good? I googled it but it is really confusing. I'd like to skip the local channels and rattle their cage from a bit higher up in hopes of something getting done about it.

Sure. It's really minor but it pisses me off. For the past three days, the mailbox has been left wide open. Lucky with all the wind last week that all of my bills didn't just blow away. Also, I had some of my neighbors mail in my box the other day. No big deal. I just opened their box to toss it in there for them. That's when I saw a couple of my bills in their box. It's not rocket science. I thought postal workers had pretty decent jobs as far as pay and benefits and whatnot. If you can't close the door on the box after you put the mail in there or put the mail in the correct box maybe you shouldn't work for the post office. Maybe McDonalds is a better option.

Obviously I have no dog in this fight, but I have known a few postal carriers. (only my local carriers at work)
Most work 10-12 hrs without even a bathroom break or lunch. Average pay for their delivery route pays for only 7.5-8 hrs... not the actual hours worked. Sorting time also does not get equated into delivery time.... it is just something they have to do before they can deliver. Have you noticed they are always rushing around if they have to hand deliver anything?
A lot of these carriers would welcome getting fired so they could draw unemployment pay and not have to work their tails off.
Knowing this I give my carriers a lot of slack and always thank them.
I'm not asking for much. If it's too much to ask of my carrier to shut my box when he's done putting stuff in there then maybe he should be working else where. I don't really enjoy my job much but I do my assigned job duties without being a lazy piece of shit.
(Sorry. My anger is directed towards my carrier and not anyone on here. Unless one of you is my mailman.)
Is it your regular carrier or have they changed recently?
I ask because I talk to my regular carrier from time to time. When their is a substitute it is obvious.
I honestly don't know. I am seldom home when the mail arrives. On the few occasions I have seen my mail carrier, it seems like it is someone different every time.Quote:

We dealt with a similiar issue years ago in littleton. Blatant delivery issues, carrier taking 3 hr lunch breaks (she lived 5 houses down) mail delivered when "she" felt like delivering it.
Lost / undelivered bills, next day documents etc. etc. etc. Bottom line, she was a "protected" federal employee who at the worst would receive a verbal reprimand, nothing more. Once they were secure in the job, like any state or federal job, the removal process took forever. We had one guy (state) who they gave notice to in 07 and finally terminated in 09.
Maybe leave a polite note on the box. That might help. At least after that they can't say they didn't know it was an issue.
Or heck, leave a nasty, profanity filled letter and maybe that'll get some attention.
I have a story from a postal employee in another state, about a lady doing similar stuff to what Kazoo mentioned. Only it was more blatant, like delivering to the end of the street, then throwing the rest into the drain. She could do whatever she liked and knew it. She was finally let go when she shit into one of those hard plastic sorting boxes and left it on her boss' desk. This is all hersay, but good luck Ray!

I finally found out why our postal service sucked so very very very bad. Turns out we're on a "training route". It seems you might also be on one of those. Sorry, friend!
I finally left a note in our box, with the mis-directed mail, for the millionth time, it said..."Is it the letters or the numbers that confuse you so?" "I'll be contacting the postmaster to see if maybe they can help determine your particular challenge."
I have a lot of comfort in knowing that I almost certainly out-gun the carrier.
Oh, and finally, if you took the job, and you cash the check for the job, do the dang job. If you suck at this job, what makes you think you deserve something better? You look at the address, you put it into the box with the corresponding address. SERIOUSLY??? I WISH my job was that brainless. Actually, that's not true. I'd probably go postal if that was the case.

When they have a donation drive, I always leave out a box of 5.56mm for the carrier.

You are right it is not rocket science... it is a MATCHING GAME. That is all it is.
I live in a condo in a neighborhood of several hundred units...my front porch became the drop spot for any package that USPS, UPS, and FEDEX couldn't find the actual address. That went on for 1 summer...then stopped as quickly as it started.
On the other hand my USPS carrier cannot be bothered to knock or ring the doorbell when they are required to get a signature. I will be sitting on the couch 5 feet from the door and they will leave a sorry we missed you card on the door.
Working long hours is no excuse for not doing your job. People who do a half ass job just because they worked a long day don't deserve any slack. Employees need to do what's expected of them and do their best to do it right or get a new job.Quote:

I would check the box once or twice a week, but it is on of the shared community kiosk type, which I am surprised they haven't changed everyone in the metro areas to.

We had a mail person with a real attitude. She used to delight in driving down the street gutter and throwing slush up onto a freshly shoveled sidewalk. The slush would freeze and couldn't do anything with it until next afternoon. She said she didn't have time to slow down.
I have had a running stream of postal workers delivering mail to my business over the last 17 years. Of the 9 or ten that were assigned to the route, basically one didn't seem to be pissed off/apathetic/downright nasty about having to do their job. The Postal service pays fairly well, has union benefits, and nearly invincible job security. In addition, being a government run corporation, they don't have to run it like a business, so employee compensation isn't tied to performance.

Once you put up a mail box it becomes property of the post office and is federal property.
Besides the felony charge for that, you can be in trouble for violating the Privacy Act..... if they wanted to push back after you complain.
Accidentally had a box shipped to my old address (address forwarding in effect). Post office never forwarded it and the new tenant obviously kept the box. I even PAID for the forwarding service online. Makes you wonder what else is not being forwarded-kept-thrown away.
The only real guaranteed way for a postal employee to get fired is if they get caught stealing, and I mean caught red handed. The postal inspectors have lots of job security and could spend their entire career just chasing theft from mail cases. The local post master may or may not take an interest in your complaint. We both have our mail coming out of the same office south of 120th on Washington.
If it happens once or twice a month, it is likely a sub. If it happens more often, it is quite possible it is your regular carrier. Surprisingly, most long term carriers are competent and are a great source of information on what is going on in their neighborhoods.
If you get your mail on time more than 70% of the time, you are beating the odds for most government services. While the postal service is only quasi-government, their employees actually have better conditions than most federal employees and their union is a force to be reckoned with inside the postal service.
Consider a loop video camera focused on your mail box for a week or two. Review it to see if there is anything else going on, like kids messing with your mailbox.
Update. Still coming home to this scene several days a week. Might use some heavy duty springs to make some sort of self closing mechanism.

I finally had to go pick up a package at my local post office today that was shipped 2 day last Monday, got to Aurora Wednesday morning and was scanned out for delivery that same day. After an email on their website, asking my carrier if it was on his truck twice, 2 calls to the national number and 3 more to the local post office where each time I gave them my name, tracking number and phone number to call back when they found it I got fed up and went down there to find it. Took them 20 minutes but they finally brought it out. On the phone they said it was a problem with the label, but it's on the box just fine with all the right info. [fail] [Mad][Rant1]
Aurora does this all the time. I had a box go into limbo, no tracking update for a week, found it in the Buckley/Alameda post office with some brazen lie about an address they couldn't figure out. It was a perfectly typed, clear and legible rendition of my address.Quote:
