I misread that title as Furry...
not a Brad Pitt lover but I'll probably see it. For whatever reason I enjoy the WWII films more than most.
Looks good. My uncle was a medic with Patton as he pushed across Europe after D-Day. Wish he was still alive but he never did talk much about it.
Same here, but then I noticed it wasn't one of Ridge's posts so I came on in. [mlp] [LOL]
Nice to see some good war films still being made, even if they puss out by making them WWII films.
Brad Pitt is usually good in these kind of things, I'm more worried I'll be annoyed by French Beef Boy, but hey it could still be good.
Anyone know if this is based on a true story?
Hmmm, nice looking M4A3E8, which you don't see a lot of in films these days, wonder if the extra turret mount machine gun was contemporary field addition or not.
Sgt. Nick Fury was a comic book when I was a kid....
David Ayer almost never does anything outside of LA cop movies. Training Day, Street Kings, Harsh Times, End of Watch, SWAT, Dark Blue, The Fast and the Furious I've all seen. His movies are rarely stellar, but non unwatchable. I will say that if the trailer is representative of the movie, he's trying WAY too hard to sell the woes of war theme. It could just be bad editing, but it's like they just tried to write some foreboding, profound one-sentence line for each scene.
"You think it can't get worse-it can and it will."
"The dying's not done; the killing's not done."
"I started this war killing Germans in Africa. Now I'm killing Germans in Germany."
"Do your job; do what you're here for."
"The deals are peaceful; history is violent."
Subtlety is always better.
I'll be seeing this. Looks well done for sure. I may not be a Brad Pitt fan, but for those who don't know, him and Angelina are very pro-gun. They get a cool point for that.
I was just about to post something about that... Pitt likes guns, he can't be all bad- and he's certainly not as progressive/communist as his pal Clooney. Still, I love how they're pushing the heroism of WWII harder now than ever before. Maybe because so many vets are passing, but most are pretty decent films depicting the heroics and patriotism of our greatest generation.
I....luv...tanks. Must see....
While the "Easy 8" was no match for Panthers and Tigers frontally, it gave an excellent account of itself vs Pz 3s and 4s and StuGs.
Also, the M4A3E8 was the basis for the various Israeli Super Shermans used in the 60s and 70s..
How old was a typical tank commander in WWII, maybe 20? 25 and he was 'the old man'.
That's part of my issue with Pitt. Hollywood needs to stick in some no-name actors who can act who may be a bit more age appropriate. Personally, I'd enjoy it more than seeing some gray 50something on the front, kicking ass in WWII.
I haven't varified it's true but read where the Tiger in the movie is the real deal. Not a CGI or doctored up Patton or somesuch:
"The film will feature the last surviving operational Tiger I. The vehicle, known as Tiger 131, belongs to Bovington Tank Museum. It's the first time a real Tiger tank – and not a prop version – has been used on a film set."
The tiger is an impressing tank http://youtu.be/YKldF0KIDIQ
The Tiger 2 is my favorite though http://youtu.be/Kv3XZjSiaa8
Looks good except that little Shia Le whatever twit. Can't stand that douche.
shia labeouf translated to French = Chier la Bouffe = Poop the food.
Ive seen that Tiger up close a few times - both before and after restoration. It is an early Tiger captured by the Brits in Tunisia in 1943. About 10-12 years ago, they took it completely apart and stripped it down to the bare metal, then carefully built it up over years - many volunteers involved. I understand they show it off with other runners in the Summer in a yearly event. Bovington is heaven for treadheads - largest tank collection in the world and everything presented in actual colors. Sent chills up my spine to see "Little Willie" - the first tank. The WW1 collection alone is unbelievable - nowhere else. They have everything thru more or less modern day, including some extremely rare 1 offs or experimental vehicles. Wish they had a Maus, but the only survivor is in Russia.
Just saw Fury, and I give it very high marks. Gritty and realistic. Pretty dark in places. Pitt was better than I expected he would be, and Bernthal rocked.
* spoiler alert below *
My favorite part was the dance 'o death with the Tiger! Man, that got the adrenaline pumping!
The scene with the 4 Shermans advancing in line abreast and all MGs blazing was awe inspiring.
One minor factoid - they clearly used different Shermans to show Fury - one has the older VVSS (Vertical volute spring suspension) and another has the later HVSS (Horizontal volute spring suspension). Not sure why. The German halftracks were swiss post-war copies of the SPW 251/1
I'm torn. I detest Pitt but I like WW2 movies -- or I used to. They don't write them the way they used to, maybe because the new films aren't written by actual vets anymore but more often written by liberal anti-military hacks.
Brad and Angie are very pro-gun. Not sure what your particular issues are with him, but maybe that tips you over the edge... :)

After the Aurora, Colo., theater shooting in 2012, Pitt said:“America is a country founded on guns. It’s in our DNA. It’s very strange but I feel better having a gun. I really do. I don’t feel safe, I don’t feel the house is completely safe, if I don’t have one hidden somewhere. That’s my thinking, right or wrong.”
I wouldn't be singing Pitt's praises too loudly. He's been, and still is, a fairly staunch Obama supporter. Just because he has guns in the house doesn't make him pro-gun. Diane Feinstein has a gun, too.
As for the movie, it's on the list to see.
We had a team building day and one of the options was to go see Fury yesterday. I thought it was a great movie as did the other guys from the shop.
Saw Fury today. I thought it was a good film. Well done. Definitely shows the horrors and darkside of war. Even Pitt was good.
Worth seeing.
We saw it last night at Alamo Drafthouse. The movie was awesome and so was the pizza. We will buy that Blue Ray when it comes out.
Saw it today. Without really thinking too hard I'd say it's one of my top 5 favorite war movies. Even the wife enjoyed it.
Just saw it a couple of hours ago. Very good movie. Couple of things "bothered" me at the end. Hollywood always rears it's ugly head at some point, but other than that the tank battles were AWESOME! Sound effects were VERY good and special effects were very good. The story of the tank "Fury" is an excellent one and anyone who hasn't seen it, should!
Does anybody know with the sherman tanks, if the engine has to be running in order to move the turret?
Looking forward to seeing this movie. I like Pitt in most movies.
Saw it last night. Great WW2 movie!
Sent from my iPhone
Good flick. Saw it last night.
Good movie, but depressing at the same time. I drove Bradley's in Iraq where EFP's were common in our AO, so some parts of the movie bothered me a bit.
It certainly didn't glorify war, but wasn't an anti-war movie either.
My favorite thing about the movie was there were no heroes, it was just men trying to survive which to me really was the whole driving force of the movie.
Saw it this weekend, good movie.
The wife enjoyed it too.
Like others have said, gritty & dark at times.
