First long range toy

Picked up this savage 10fcp-k a few months ago. Threw some parts at it with the plan of doing a budget build. I think it turned out great. This is my first long range toy and I am working up a load currently but Specs as follows.

Savage Fcp-k .308
Accustock duracoated coyote tan (DIY)
Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50
Vortex bubble level
Leupold med rings
EGW 20 Moa base (bedded)
Dark eagle 10rd mag
Harris bipod
Tactical works cheek pad
Polished bolt
Glades armory bolt handle
Lapped rings and action
Bedded action even though it wasn't needed
Filled buttstock with lead shot and sand
Skateboard grip tape on stock

So far this is my 3 rd group at 100yrds and I've been ringing steel at 1080 so far with plans to push it farther soon.

Personally... I've shot 3 of these matches... 1 more than any others.
It is ridiculously fun... and very addicting.

Shooting passed 1K yards can be fun and you can learn a lot, but there is nothing like shooting a match that takes away your comfort zone... and you still come back for more [Coffee]

Believe me... I've been there once to many even till this day I still shoot like sh*t... these matches are definitely a place to learn and break away from the norm of shooting (feeling the pressure). I can say this though. Attending these matches have made me shoot better at longer distances (without the pressure)..., and yes... I've been out shot by women, kids, and much older folks behind a rifle.

Either way... These matches are always open to us and are meant to have fun. Hopefully get to meet and see you at one of these events [Beer]

I embarrass myself more often than not. It's a great motivator to improve. Take the good-natured ribbing without getting ass-hurt, and lots of good advice will follow. Great bunch of folks.

I dish out as much crap as I get so we are good there. Can't wait to get out and give it a try.

There's a match this Saturday at CRC. Bring 48 rounds and you'll leave a better shooter. [Beer]

Thanks , already pulled off the grip tape. It was so coarse it was tearing my hands up. I'll do some different grip material more rubber like this time. Ordered some firearm grip tape but was thinking of marinetex. Anyone here use it?

Still working up my ammo so hopefully next month I'll be ready.

Nope. Just get out there and do it.

Getting the guts to go out there for your first match is the hardest part.

Looks to me like you know how to shoot.

Advice on weather to upgrade to a tilt bipod or keep this one? Necessary for matches or could I do it with a fixed?

Absolutely get one that tilts and add a scope level.

I've got a scope level (you can see it in the first post) I'll look into getting a tilting harris.

Also if I were you when you go to the new bipod, get the 9-13" notched swivel one. The Bench rest (6-9" IIRC) is just a little low for a lot of field match work, sometimes that little extra is just what you need.

Well I ordered the short one because the 9" is a little tall if I do bench shooting and my case is cut for the shorter one too. I did get the notched legs and swivel though.

Good call on the 9-13 one. You can always put the bi-pod on top of your backpack for more elevation.

Now get the Pod Loc. It's invaluable. Google it if you're not familiar. It's a great piece of kit.

Very nice. If you get a minute, I would love to see a parts list for the rifle. I have never seen one mounted on a tripod like that.

I like the looks of the spiral cut bolt. Did you do that to the original bolt or is it some sort of replacement unit?
