Anyone surprised?
Nope, no surprise here.
What would surprise me would be seeing this acknowledged in the Washington ComPost or New York Times. Hell, I'd settle for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Politics almost never has anything to do with mass shootings, so it's pointless to stroke one's self over not being registered to a political party while doing so.
27 deadliest mass shootings in US history
http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/16/us/20-...ry-fast-facts/
The only one obviously politically motiviated was Mark Essex, a black Navy vet who killed 10 cops and 9 civilians in New Orleans and who's apartment was covered with anti-white graffiti.
Anti-white is political?
How can you cite that CNN article to prove a point that multiple shootings are rarely politically motivated? It doesn't give enough information either way in the synopses of the shootings.
Communist News Network?
It is like they are all lieing to me!!!!
Cant I believe the Media and our fellow Americans on the LEFT?
Hahahahahaha ... CNN hasn't been centrist since the first Bush administration.
Having said that, I doubt most mass shootings have any political basis although it seems very very few of the shooters had any connection to conservatism while several had distinct ties to liberalism, a statistical correlation (note, NOT causation) that goes opposite to the way the mass media tends to portray things.
I would tend to agree that there probably isn't much political motivation apparent in mass shootings. Of course, so many of the shooters die, it's hard to say unless they leave some clues before they check out.
People from both sides of the political aisle do bad things. Liberals nor conservatives have the market cornered on individual violence. When it comes to governments I'd say the far left has killed WAY more than governments that lean right. At least in the last hundred years or so.
I've seen both versions of this. Left and right. I see it more as a way to make whichever side feel superior about their position.
Bad people do bad things.
Bad people suck.
Exactly. Actual scholarly studies that looked at the slant of the media show that out of the 20 major news outlets in this country, 18 of them are far to the left of the average member of congress, except for Fox and I think the Washington Post. The Fox News news bureau is actually slightly left of center. Please note that this is the news on Fox News, not color commentary and editorials for those that can't figure out there is a difference.
CNN is one of the news outlets that their news content is left of center, though not as bad as MSNBC.
I think you mean the Wall Street Journal, not the Washington Post. The Washington Posts's news coverage has been left of center since at least the Nixon administration and probably the Kennedy administration.
The WaPo is as far left as CNN and the NYT. The Washington Times is the more centrist paper in DC.
Really? Never?
-Nidal Hasan – Ft Hood Shooter: Registered Democrat and Muslim.
-Seung-Hui Cho – Virginia Tech shooter: Wrote hate mail to President Bush and to his staff, registered Democrat.
-James Holmes – the “Dark Knight”/Colorado shooter: Registered Democrat, staff worker on the Obama campaign, #Occupy guy, progressive liberal, hated Christians.
-Jared Loughner, the Tucson shooter – Leftist, Marxist.
-Harris and Klebold, the Columbine Shooters – families registered Democrats and progressive Leftists.
-Bill Ayers, Weather Underground bomber – Leftist Democrat.
-Lee Harvey Oswald, Socialist, Communist and Democrat – killed Kennedy
Tell me again who is more likely to kill many when they can't cope with society... Oh, and explain Chicago. That is a mostly Democrat city, mostly democrats are these "low-income" gang bangers.
Ronin -- Much as it pains me to defend Ridge, his statement was that politics almost never has anything to do with the SHOOTINGS, not the shooter. Seung-Hui Cho's rampage didn't appear to be politically motivated. Neither did James Holmes' or Columbine.
Bill Ayers is scum but not accused of mass SHOOTINGS to the best of my knowledge. The Kennedy assassination is not generally regarded as a MASS shooting.
Then again, I think Ridge was deflecting the discussion by talking about shootings rather than shooters since the title of the post was clearly talking about shooters.
You last sentence, yes... however, his quote clearly said it has nothing to do with mass shootings... but the mental state, anger, hatred, and motivations of the shooter actually have quite a lot to do with the shooting. Sure politics doesn't motivate WHO to shoot, but it could very well motivate WHY.
Not even Stretch Armstrong could back up your claim Ronin.
I look at someone like Tim McVeigh and what he did as clearly politically motivated. Obviously politically motivated and obviously extremely right wing. It's hard to see that Holmes or Cho or Lanza were politically motivated as extreme leftists to do what they did. And I think Hassan had religious, not political, motivations, regardless of which party he was registered in.
