That's awesome. I'm jelly.
Right on!!!
In you face Libs! Pelosi and the gang must be shitting bricks.
Wow, that's great!
Congrats to the citizens of the great State of Missouri.
But our constitution says we can legally smoke dope. So there.
I was raised in Missouri. Thats just how we roll. Maybe after November we can make this contagious here in Colorado.
Good on the citizens of Missouri.
Forwarded link to legislation and to X Amendment Center to state rep and state senator.
Really like that this is step one of many articulated by the proponents. They have attained their first goal and are working on next.
That's awesome... now if only Missouri wasn't so miserable (winters especially)...
Fun to visit, never would want to live there.
Never spent a winter there but I've spent some time in the summer there in the southern part of the states. Make sure you stock up on "tick be gone".
Excellent!
NO SUN in the winter always cloudy, nothing to do, humidity...
Good for them!! Now, if we could pull the same shit here... [AR15]
I grew up there. The reason the winters are soo bad is that they chill you to the bone. There is a lot of moisture in the Ozark's. That is why the summers are really hot and winters are really cold. Just walking around you get this film of 'wet' that freezes you when the cold wind hits. It also make the trees get this coating of ice that can be very beautiful but shows how cold it is out there. Missouri can be great but the extremes of each season are common. Fall can be like a stereotype from a book, Spring is very wet. This also makes the bugs get the maximum of what they need. The ticks, chiggers, Mosquitos, etc are a handful. I love Missouri but am gonna stick with CO. BTW... MO is the Meth capital of the world (the other post is completly right on this one). That is no joke. A lot of people are dirt poor and Meth is cheap to make. One oddity is that you will have to get a full perscription to get simple cough/sleep medicine. This is due to again the meth, codine is apparently a main ingredient.
Roger that. Grew up in SE Kansas. Not far from the MO and definitely not a terrible place to live. Winters are usually quite mild. Spent many Thanksgivings and even Christmas in short sleeves. It is true that the humidity can make life miserable but it's not all bad.
One thing that more than makes up for the weather is the gun shows and shooting events. Deer hunting is awesome as long as you have access to land to hunt on. It's crazy that when I left, Kansas was loosening some gun laws. Finally allowing private ownership of full auto and silencers. A few years after being here now I can no longer legally buy normal capacity mags for many of my guns.
I can't deny the humidity it is horrible at times
Thrilled for my family still in MO about this Constitutional Amendment. THIS is the only thing that will keep the anti's in che k. It takes a hell of a lot more votes (of the People) to repeal a Constitutional amendament than it takes for a legislative body to pass bogus anti legislation. IF we can regain the governors office AND the legislature, we really need to consider this sort of action here to regain and semi-permanently protect our rights. Thing is, we have to act quickly or our window will likely close forever.
How about me then?
Born & raised in MO (Western side). And, after I joined the military I was stationed just 20 miles outside of St. Louis, MO for 10 years - close enough to make 28 years of informed and personal experience-based statements about the state. I agree 100% about the weather and bugs (at least compared to CO).
Summers were hotter & oppressively more humid (my God, the humidity is now unbearable to me).
Winters may not have been as cold in MO as here, but there sure was a lot more snow & ice than I've encountered in my 19 years in CO. Because of that, they just seemed colder. The good thing is that they knew (at least used to, don't know for a fact these days) how to properly blade a road for safe travel. They knew how to do it, and they did it often enough to be effective.
Fall was awesome as the fall colors and mild temps were nice. They actually have a real Spring there too, unlike what I've ecperienced here.
Crime has gotten out of hand in both Kansas City & St. Louis. Plus, their liberal majorities often control the entire state with very liberal policies. It's only thanks to the fact that this Amendment got to go before a vote of the general populous of the entire state that it passed.
Bugs? While we're changing the ecosystem along the front Range (much like they did in Phoenix) which is allowing for more bugs than ever before, I love have few bugs we have compared to back home. Where my folks live is tick & chiggar INFESTED! A 1/2 hr walk through the woods in the summer would result in removing 50 of more ticks (thankfully, only a few would have bit in yet). We let our dogs out and they'd return 2 hours later and we'd de-tick them. It wasn't uncommon to remove over 100. Since they're a bitch to kill (pipping the heads off of that many takes too long), we'd stick 'em on straight pins. They'd still be alive weeks later.
Chiggars? Powdering yourself with a sock filled with sulpher smelled aweful, but it significantly reduced (notice I didn't say "eliminate") the chiggars. I recall one year at Boy Scout camp getting so eaten up by the 3rd day that I was a walking chiggar bite. I counted over 100 bites in just the area my underwear covered (yeah, I ws a young teen and focused on that area). I was miserable.
Mosquitos were horrendous as well. They seemed to thrive on DEET or any other thing you could put on to thwart them. The humidity makes you sweat horribly and the mosquito's LIVE human sweat. I'd lie awake at nights hearing moquitos in my bedroom until I couldn't take it anymore. I'd get up, turn on the light, stand against a white wall and wait for the mosquitos to land on me - then squash 'em. When they were all dead, I could finally go back to sleep (so ling as I kept my windows & bedroom door closed to keep from having more come in).
As for other bugs (like spiders), there must be 1000-to-1 more there than I used to see here. But, like I said, we're getting more here with all of the peopke, lawns, sprinklers, etc. we're getting along the Front Range.
Missouri has some gorgeous scenery, but with all I mentioned above, and since MO doesn't have our stunning Rocky Mtn's, I have no intention of ever moving back there.
Good for them!
True story about the bugs, ticks, and chiggers. Can make a trip out in the woods a nightmare. We would put an ear tag that had insecticide on each boot plus soaking with DEET would keep them off. I like it when the weather changes somewhat. Lightening storms are incredible. Having it actually rain is good too. All in all though would have a hard time moving back. I always say it was a good place to be from.
BTW I've experienced more crime since moving here than I had back there. Kid had a go kart and a high end bike stolen in 2 separate instances. I've had tools stolen. Material stolen. People close by getting shot. Wannabe Mexican gang banger graffiti all over. People are crazy no matter where you come from.
