When we heard that the wall fell, me and a couple of friends drove to berlin from Paris. It was a great event but it was also a pretty wild party! Eastern german girls felt... liberated.
Scuttlebutt around base was that the wall was going to come down that night. I thought they were pulling my leg- but we knew hours before the news services did. After I got off my day shift, I went out to Checkpoint Charlie and then the Brandenburg Gate and watched the world's biggest party unwind. I've never been hugged or kissed by so many strangers!
& the communist party still won. They just renamed it the democrat party.
