Where is this showing?
I just watched it on the internet, (some website)
I really don't know, its all free, anything in the theaters are on there all the time. If you watch American Sniper on there at the bottom there is different ways to view it. Choose option 360P, it is the second one to the left. Looks great
I thought we had a movie thread ?
We do we do, oops
Thanks for the info though. I watched the first few minutes. Looks pretty good. If I didn't have plans to go see it in a week or two at the theater I would be really tempted to watch it right now.
lol, I am still going to the theater with the wife to see it as well.
I'm looking forward to this one and waiting to see it on the big screen. I'm happy to hear it's good.
I wonder how many other iraq/afghanistan vets specifically avoid seeing these types of movies like I do. I was pissed off for weeks after watching about 5 minutes of the hurt locker and how ridiculous mockery hollywood can make of relatively recent events.
I saw it a couple weeks ago over the Christmas release in Dallas. Very good movie overall, one worth seeing in the theater.
Meh. I don't mind them, but they're taken with a pretty hefty grain of salt. I thought Lone Survivor was better though. But that's just like, my opinion man.
GEDIT: It is getting pretty annoying watching filmmakers constantly screwing up the tab and scroll, though.
A few of the cheapest ways to watch it at an AMC theater is
a) Matinee (before noon) - $7/person (was $5/person not too long ago)
b) Discount Tickets from King Soopers - gold tix for $8.50 and Silver tix (silver are often not accepted during the first 10-14 days after release) for $7.50
c) MoviePass - Unlimited Movies for $30/month
d) Organization Discounts - AAA, Credit Unions, etc. sometimes have discounts for members.
I generally avoid watching that category, but mostly because I sit there the entire time thinking "Bullshit! That type of element would never use XXXX" or "F*cking POGs don't know BD6!"
But dude, aren't they basically the same thing? I mean they both say that cool R word and go on your shoulder. Oh wait, I remember now... the tab is the cooler one cause that's what the Special Forces guys wear too, right?
You Army guys are so wound up about stupid little things like that. Next you're gonna start bitching about how people have to stand when talking to each other...

Oh man I missed that one. But yeah AS had A LOT of those "Bullshit!" moments. You mean to tell me you're going to be rolling through downtown shithole just having a pleasant conversation with your wife on a SAT phone? Don't think so, man. And I didn't know guns magically sounded like the lasers from Star Wars when you slap a suppressor on them.
Its a movie
I saw a private showing over the weekend. It's being released in Denver this week; Wednesday night I believe. If you liked Lone Survivor, go check it out.
For me, it reminded me to think about what is important in life, if nothing else. It seems to force s an interesting reflection on ones own life, your ability to control and influence the projects (missions, et al) in your life, and what you want to be known for, what legacy you wish to leave, etc. I am still contemplating all of the thoughts and reactions I'm having to the movie, but it was solid entertainment for sure.
I will almost assuredly go see it again with a certain group of friends, since I did not have to pay this weekend. I was not much of a Bradley Cooper fan beforehand, but he did a good job as Chris Kyle, in my opinion.
I watched it over the weekend, didn't think it followed the book all that well. Overall it was a decent movie, wasn't what I thought it would be.
IIRC, Hollywood is actually SUPPOSED to screw something up on the uniforms to avoid violating the law against illicit wear of the uniform. I remember reading an article about this 15 or 20 years ago. Usually the ones who know better will do something very subtle like use an unauthorized ribbon or device. Mixing up the tab and scroll may be one of those dodges to give a relatively accurate portrayal but being able to say the actor in question was not impersonating a US servicemember because the uniform wasn't 100% right.
Here is my take on all the "mistakes" in these movies.
The majority of people going to see these movies know nothing about the way things are supposed to be.
If a suppressed firearm sounds like a laser, it's because the target audience needs to hear something in order to be entertained, the cycling of the action with no other report, is too boring.
There are many other examples, but that's the best one I could come up with right away.

-if anyone wants to make a better movie than Hollywood, pull out that Visa card and get busy.
Watching a show this weekend, "EOD:Afghanistan". Essentially a group of EOD guys, wearing Go-Pros, clearing a route. Very slow, often dull, punctuated by short periods of extreme stress, danger, and fear.....and frustration. Tali's watching, like heyenas....
Note: I've never been in the military, so my terminology probably isn't correct.
As with the "Lone Survivor" film there are changes from the book going on here. However the fact the Kyle family and his friends/fellow warriors are good with the film allowed me to accept the changes. It's not a documentary and I appreciated it for the tribute it is. I was in NYC last week and saw it there.
There's a very good interview with Cooper and Taya Kyle on NPR's website, worth a listen for sure.
I'll be seeing it again with my sons (one of which is an Army E6 who came home from assholeistan in Sept).
Yup! Or in this movie's case, putting an airborne tab over the tab & scroll. At least most (not all) of this movie is correct from what my friends still in SOF have told me. Most of the recent OEF/OIF movies have been way off mark. I'd need a delegate thread to correct what Hollywood f'ed up in Lone Survivor. Hurt Locker was highly sensationalized as well. I still remember the POS movie they did about the Jessica Lynch raid...
A private veteran company took care of that bill for her.
Myth. They really are just that stupid.

Yes. In fact he's an extra in a handful of scenes. That doesn't mean it wasn't Hollywoodified.
Read the book, just saw the movie. There are some pretty big plot differences. Overall, I thought the movie was a good diversion from reality for 90 minutes or so... I'd call it a 6 or 7 out of 10.
To expand a bit. I know the Dietz family, they were all quite "content" with how Danny was portrayed in the film "Lone Survivor" and this is the same impression I'm left with reading/listening to the many interviews with the Kyle family. They understood that the films were going to change things up a bit-as would be expected trying to condense any book into a 2 hour film. Again, these films are not documentaries but instead hoped to capture the essence of the books and the men portrayed. If the families are content then who am I to find fault with the films.
Here's one of many interviews with the screen writer:

As far as getting the various tabs/ranks etc. correct or not, it doesn't have anything to do with an actor impersonating a servicemember. Hell, that's like having an actor with say, oh I don't know, a felony conviction on their record yet handling a firearm (doesn't matter legally if it's adapted to fire blanks) in a role. With a brother in the film industry (started as a set builder, moved on to special effects, now on the business side of things) he attributes it to sloppiness or being "close enough".
Also as an aside it was interesting watching "The Hurt Locker" with my older son shortly after his return from a deployment. He commented frequently on how "oh that guy with the" cell phone, camera, etc would've had rounds go his way if seen during his outings. He also talked about the timing of the film (being early in the war) with different ROEs than on his time might explain a little of it. Still, he had a Navy EOD team with him and he commented that there was a guy or two who acted very close to Renner's character (this was prior to the film coming out).
Accuracy notwithstanding, it was a good film. If it doesn't make you want to empty an insurgent's braincase, you need to have your testosterone levels checked.
It was honestly a lot better than I expected. I definitely enjoyed it.
