In a perfect world....nice to have understanding police officers on our side.
If I was pulling somebody over I would be ecstatic to know the person had gone through an extensive enough of a background check to get a CCW. It would improve your chance that he's not a hot head or ex-con or general dirt bag. I imagine after a while as a cop you start to realize CCW carries are generally well behaved people. I hope more cops would act as this guy did and be a little appreciative of CCW's.
Can you imagine what the conversation would be like if a passenger filming this in the car pulled over was from Bloomberg's Every Clown and saw this realizing cops actually could trust somebody with a gun and only gave them a warning.
I bought my Winchester from an FBI agent in Glenwood Springs. When I told him I had a permit and was wearing a 1911 he smiled, shook my hand and thanked me for being "one of the good guys". That whole experience was odd, I had no idea he was an agent until we got off the elevator to go to his office and saw the "FBI Field Office" sign on the door. Helluva nice guy though.
Also got stopped one night in Centennial for a sobriety check (they used some other BS reason to stop me) and one of the officers saw my exposed 1911 on my hip. They didn't give me any shit, just watched me carefully and asked me to keep my hands on the wheel while we chatted and my license/permit was ran. The whole thing was a non-issue, pretty much making sure I wasn't a drunk out at 2-3am or whatever it was. Just coming home from work was all.
These are the cops we need and deserve. It would be nice to hear these stories more often.
CHP or not, driving 15 mph over should have earned him a ticket.Quote:

It's at the discretion of the officer. (another arm chair trooper)
I was given a warning for 15 over in Aspen Park Cool CSP. Liked my truck.
When a cop pulls you over for BS and then wants to talk about you being drunk at 2am, how is it that they are cool. Sounds like some d bags to me.
I've only had one bad stop while caring and that was by a colorado state trooper. He disarmed me and then dropped a $1000 1911 onto the gravel shoulder.
Every other time they ask if I have a permit and that's it. Shouldn't even ask for the permit in colorado seeing as you don't need it.
This has happened to me the past 3 times I've been pulled over (All for speeding). I let them know there's a gun in the car, where it is, and that I have my CCW. They relax then ask if I have any AR's (Due to the AR stickers on the back window) and we end up just talking about AR's and other guns for the next 5 minutes and I'm let off with a warning every time. Castle Rock cops are alright with me for now
The last time I gave an officer my CCW card, he got mad at me for not telling him earlier. "Why were you reaching all over the car, THEN tell me you have a gun?" <-- That's exactly why. I needed to find my stuff without Officer Jumpy freaking out about a gun the whole time.
I know some folks like to notify the officer as a courtesy, but I've been pulled over a few times and never once mentioned anything about a gun in the car, as it's not required in Colorado. Never had anyone freak out or anything, I was courteous and the stop went smooth.
You can't satisfy everyone. Do what you believe is the safest thing for the given situation.
Be safe.

Rondog, sounds like the same guy I bought a Colt from. He was FBI from the Glenwood office and he had business in Breckenridge so he met me in Frisco. We sat in his car and talked for quite a while, real nice guy. I don't recall if my CCW ever came up it was in 2010 and I have slept since then.
why would glenwood have an fbi office?
I don't get pulled over anymore, can't afford it.
The last time a LEO and I discussed my carrying of a pistol was last summer, quite hot out so I was open carry, went into King Soopers for some stuff. He was behind me in the self checkout and he commented that he liked my 1911 and my rig, asked if it was a Springfield, I said no, its a Colt. He said cool gun and that was it. But I was older than him so maybe he thought I was responsible or something.
The more of us that carry, in any way and as long as we are not jerks about it, the less I believe that we will be hassled in the long term. Eventually the "man" will get it (with a few exceptions, there are always exceptions).
Stay safe out there guys and gals.
I get pulled over occasionally, have been pulled over twice when carrying. Both times I informed the Officer immediately upon his approach, both times the Officer's attitude immediately changed to the positive and did not get a ticket either time.
totally agree..
ive been pulled over a few times with guns in the car. one time was after a shoot with a bunch of you guys out at the farm with RW. (which isn't there anymore). cop asked me where I was coming from, told him shooing, gave me a very minor ticket, and was pretty cool about everything.
