Exotic EDC pieces

Was talking with a co-worker about our EDC pistols and he accused me of carrying an "exotic" EDC piece (a Steyr S40) ... will it's not made anymore and not a ton of them out there I wouldn't call it "exotic" but it did spur on a discussion of exotic/expensive/rare CCW guns (I guess compared to his Taurus Millennium G2 my Steyr is pretty exotic :p ).

So what exotic, expensive or rare piece would y'all consider using as an EDC piece?

For me I think I'd probably daily pack an HK P7M10 (or even M8/13) if I owned one.

I carry a PM9. I'm accurate with it, it's easy to carry and I trust it. Emphasis on that trust part. Some may call it "exotic" due to the CM series. :shrugs:

A colt python would be a sweet EDC on the hip item.

I don't know that I have anything that constitutes 'exotic' in a carry size. I do have a bunch of relatively esoteric guns that I have used in competition. I could never leave my toys in their original packaging, either. Consequently, most of my guns have holster and usage wear that makes my collector friends cringe.

This little guy is my open-carry gun, but not every day, or even very often.


If I had something I was comfortable with and was amenable to daily carry, I think I'd be inclined to carry it regardless of any unique value it might otherwise have.

A Python would be an awesome exotic EDC ... and the PM9 isn't exotic. the MK9 Elite might almost qualify as exotic (should have never sold mine).

Decades ago, on the California coast, Ventura PD issued .41 Magnum Smith & Wesson Model 58's. A friend of mine on the force had a beautifully custom polished / blued S&W 57 with some exotic hardwood grips. Wish I had a photo of it as it was quite beautiful .... when he first started carrying it.

He was unfortunately not thinking very clearly as after about a year of full time duty that gun got banged about a bit. Ventura got away from the .41 pretty quickly thereafter.

Back in the '80's, while I was competing in the South West Pistol League, there was a guy that was on some Southern California LEO payroll, but I'm blanking on which one, that had somehow supposedly gotten permission to carry a H&K P9S in .45ACP which was probably the most exotic LEO side arm I've seen.

My older brother still won't sell me his Auto Mag..... Guess I'll have to wait until his will is read.....

There is a P7M13 at The Gun Room in Lakewood. (At least there was a couple of days ago).

The only time my carry gun gets anywhere near exotic is when I compete with it at matches. Even then, it doesn't even make it to "rare."

What? I have 3 10mm's, the G29 was my first Glock then a G20SF, sold it, now have a G20 gen 4 and a Delta Elite. Ordered a G40 last Monday.

As far as rare EDC's I have a first year production (1929) Walther PP that I have carried. Not sure what would be considered exotic.

If it wasn't for my general distrust of 1911s for CCW and dislike of the ergos of Glocks I would gladly pack a 10mm. Too bad nobody makes a real good CCW one (other than Glock).

Wasn't there a 10mm sub compact at Shot Show a few years ago?

No matter how many dollar bills I throw at my carry gun, it refuses to be "exotic".

I used to carry a Baby Eagle in 9mm. That's about as exotic as it gets for me. I stopped carrying it because it felt like I had a Buick on my hip.

I carry a free admission to exotic dancers in case of emergency

Probably the most expensive setup I've concealed but I don't know about exotic for a TRP Operator.

That being said I prefer the opposite end of the spectrum from 'exotic' for carry purposes. There are few exotics that fit the role better than ~$500 firearms.

This may qualify as exotic today, but not 100 years ago, and no I dont feel undergunned with 6 rounds of .32-20.

Unfortunately, one of my considerations when deciding what to carry has been"If I am forced to use this in self defense, am I willing to lose it to the police for several months(possibly forever if it becomes"lost") while they investigate?" Thus, the G26. As much as I like it, it's not unique, and can be replaced with an identical weapon for well under $500.

Also a large consideration to not carrying that TRP pictured anymore. I read about a fella that had a LE disarm him in a traffic stop (speeding) and dropped it on the side of the highway. I would much rather that happened to one of my Glocks than my TRP.

I've got my great grandfather's Colt Army Special in .32-20 ... has a 6" barrel so it's not going to be all that fun to carry CCW, but if I got a good holster for it I'd consider packing it open ... remember, .32-20 will cut a man half in two.

Does a Seecamp 380 count as exotic? This little gun really is a work of art.

Not sure why they stopped making them.

If any of you want to sell their 32-20 revolver, let me know - I've always wanted a partner for my grandfather's Win '92 Saddle Ring Carbine in 32-20.

I don't carry anything exotic, for fear of having to kick it across a sidewalk toward a cop or tossing it down a mine shaft. YMMV.

Had a couple of Detronic 45's and carried them for a short while. Does a Walther TPH in 22 LR count?
