My son bought a 2001 Xterra. There are a few electrical issues plus we need to replace the rear wiper motor. Anyone know these things? Email or pm and we exchange numbers, thanks. We're in Centennial near Southglenn if that helps.

Jack up radiator cap.
Remove Nissan vehicle from under radiator cap.
Place real vehicle (Ford / Chevy / Dodge) under radiator cap.
Lower radiator cap.
Drive vehicle as normal.

Tmleadr03 has a shop that direction, I think he is exclusively BMW but he might be worth a shot.
And the raz is good natured Doc
I actually just started working at Nissan. Too far away to help. However, I will offer this advice. Replace your radiator every 5-8 years. From the main shop techs there, it sounds like there is an issue where the transmission fluid will get into the coolant because of the way the radiator is designed. Eventually it weakens, and the fluids mix, killing the trans.
Xterrra owner . . . but no mechanic even in the mildest sense of the word. Check here, it's a great forum for Xterra Q&A and how-to's. If there's nothing posted there on it already, you can join and post up and there are some good guys on there who can maybe give some tips: http://www.thenewx.org/forum/index.php
Also, on the radiator issue that boomerhc9 mentioned . . . that's a legit concern. It's called SMOD ("Strawberry Milkshake of Death") because of the color your fluids turn when they mix and it kills your tranny. Check to see if a previous owner "bypased" the radiator cooling lines, which is a common mod to avoid the problem because there is an external tranny cooler in them. But if it's the original rad then a good idea to get it replaced.
I just barley avoided it with my 2008 . . . had it in at the shop a few months ago and they spotted the fluid mixing (ironically I had mine in for them to do that bypass and to add a 2nd external cooler) so they replaced the radiator and tranny for free. From what I understand, the radiator problem was biggest in 2005-2009, but it's a known issue with Xterras and Frontiers/Pathfinders in that same era.
EDIT: Or since yours is a Gen 1 . . . this may have more/other info as I think it's more for the earlier models: http://www.clubxterra.org/forums
Shouldn't have SMOD on a 2001
Insert obligatory should have bought a Tacoma here...

I had an 01 Xterra for a bit...luved it. I don't care for the newer big pigs; they're just overgrown luxury wagons where-as the older X's were far more practical and a properly modified Xterra can be a ba-dass off roader. I made the mistake of trading the X for a VW Jetta. ..anyway, yes, change that radiator if it looks original, and check the timing belt also. The rear wiper motor should be easy to replace.
Since we are taking it off topic, I think I'd take a newer model over the old model any day, as I doubt the size difference affects practicality, and i'd take a 4.0 "alpha" platform over the older version any day. Add to that the options with the off road or Pro4x model, and it's not even a fair comparison. So no, the new Xterras are not just over grown luxury wagons. With all that said, I've never even owned an Xterra, just wanted one and researched, and test drove them quite a bit.
Love my pig... Luxury isn't a word I'd ever use about it though

What kind of gas mileage does it get?
15-17 usually .
Well to get this back on topic I was recommended to a garage in Englewood, B's Auto. Had a nice chat on the phone, long too. Dropping it off Monday for them to give a free estimate. This one already had the timing belt replaced prior to purchase.
I have an Altima and a Maxima. I do fix and flips and restorations. Why not just replace the radiator with an aftermarket performance aluminum radiator and be done with it? Seems to me that if you know that the vehicle has a chronic radiator issue, you'd stay away from the factory radiator, but that's just me.
01 xterras dont have the radiator issue.. That is only 05- current xterra and frontiers(pretty much anything with the 4.0).
Your 3.3 is pretty reliable... Im not a fan of timing belts... But just get it changed regularly ...
Im way down in pueblo, but hit me up and ill answer any questions you have
Update, very happy with B's Auto-nice people, fairly priced, work done properly and finished when promised. I need to track down a rebuilt/remanufactured rear wiper motor as it's discontinued from Nissan. Rock Auto looks like they have what I need, anyone dealt with Rock?
Also to note the timing belt was replaced just prior to our purchase of this little beast. It's running great, no drips, got some new tires on it (Big O A/T) and now he's good to go outside of the rear wiper. The fog lights don't work but it looks like the wires cracked and shorted, oh well-not really needed.
I've liked Rock Auto the times I've used them. About half the price of Napa.
Double tap. Go Nissan.
You sure it's the motor not wiring?
Rock auto is ok. They have limited stock on some parts so triple verify that it's the right part. On my Suburban they listed a 105 and 140 amp alternator belt. My alternator is 160 amp per the code. So I have a useless to me belt I need to get rid of, not worth to ship back.
Yup on the motor, wiring is good to go. Thanks, you guys are great and it is appreciated.
