It is refreshing to hear a candidate take a stance on polarizing issues. I hope Dr. Carson's stance is genuine and not based on the audience he was speaking to to garner support.
Other than nominating Supreme Court justices, Presidents don't have a great deal of impact on the issue of abortion. They have a platform to speak, but I don't think many citizens within the electorate don't already have an opinion on abortion. Candidates who take a stance have to understand that for all the support they receive for siding one way or the other will cost them support from others who disagree.
IMO, as a pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Carson would have a unique perspective on the issue of when life begins. I have always wondered how abortion providers, who are medical doctors, rationalize their work with the Hippocratic Oath and the doctrine of primum nil nocere - "first, do no harm."

I hear so many people bitch that candidate so-n-so isn't conservative enough. Then they bitch when the same candidate talks like a conservative. It's maddening.
I actually watched a bit of that interview this morning. Though I thought Dr Carson could have structured his abortion/Roe v Wade answers a little differently (to avoid giving so much ammo to both sides), I appreciate that he is honest about not compromising his beliefs.
I also wanted to chuck the tv out the window when the comparison was made between Surface to Air Missiles and personal weapons (by the interviewer) during the obviously "Gotcha" tinged 2A portion.
Is he unelectable now? Who's to say.

Ben Carson's statements, whether gaffs or not, are no more polarizing than Trump's. At least he's an honest candidate. For Carson, it's not a matter of being up against the D's at THIS POINT, it's his ability to beat the other R's. When we get down to the D vs R vote, I don't see his beliefs making that big a difference in the vote tally. It's all about winning the independent vote, and my hope and belief is that those I's are smart enough to know he can't change Roe v Wade and the country is worse off with more D leadership.
The idea that only pro abortion liberals can get elected is stupid. If being a middle of the road moderate who would bend with the fickle winds of polls and the manufactured public opinion espoused by our Democrat run MSM would help Republicans get elected we'd all be posting here about the stupid crap President McCain or President Romney did today.
People are tired of politicians that don't stand for something. Abortion has become damn near a 50-50 issue in this country so coming out against abortion (and in particular the unconstitutional way laws banning it were over ruled by a bunch of oligarchs in black robes) is not going to cost him the election ... in fact standing strongly for something is going to garner him more support.
Since Roe V Wade EVERY Republican President has been pro-life and publicly spoken out against Roe V Wade.
So what are all the glowing and wonderful things the MSM has been or would have been saying about Carson? How can they hate him more than they already do? He's a black conservative ... he is a thing to be scorned and destroyed (even if he came out for free government paid for abortions to the 30th trimester).
This. Tons of people don't agree with abortion and will be happy to finally have a candidate willing to voice their shared opinion. I agree with everything he said. First he acknowledge the court decision, and second he expressed his view. Based on the court decision, he also recognized that it is not within the office he is seeking to challenge it.
