Some of this nonsense comes from all the damn CSI TV shows that have conditioned Americans to think that forensics is "science". Its largely not. Realize that even something as accepted as finger print analysis has no rigorous scientific study supporting its accuracy/reliability.
Also, there is no agency in this country whose reputation so greatly exceeds its actual competence like the FBI.
I've been trying to tell people this for years. I think the same goes for identifying which firearm a projectile was fired from. The logic behind these tests has never made sense to me at all.Quote:

Not really. I'm not aware of a single jurisdiction where the polygraph results are admissable in a criminal case. The box is a tool, and like any tool is only as good as the examiner using the tool. I don't personally put much stock in them, but I know some examiners who use the box very effectively to obtain information from people who take them.Quote:
