I can't speak for the rest but I like to do a couple sparklers from time to time. [emoji6]

I'm a pyro at heart and Independence Day is my favorite holiday so when I can I like to light a few mortars.......I mean a party popper's off.
I like beer and lighting stuff on fire
I may or may not have some stuff that shouldn't be lit in a residential area [Awesom]
One year the Thornton PD came by ( a friends) and asked them to Please Stop lighting fireworks . It was taking away from the city's show.
Another year we "observed" someone using what appeared to be rather large cylindrical objects and primitive ignition systems. The Littleton PD rolled in. They saw the flash (daytime mind you) across broadway. 3 blocks over. They thought someones furnace blew up.
Living in Arapahoe Cty we'd do displays, starting @ 5-6 for the kids ;) and closing down around 10. All the neighbors in the area were kind enough to leave their garden hoses out front & hooked up. Average outlay was the $500 range, with the neighbors kicking in.
Now, the town we reside in...............$500 fine. No if's and or buts. However it's only a $300 fine for discharging a firearm in city limits. Go Figure.
Making ~6" mortar shells doesn't look too difficult. Just so happens, if you bury one of those round cans originally designated for a 155mm powder charge, it seems to be about the right size.
Otherwise, we set off tannerite. Night time be damned.
There may, or may not be, some things happening over Parker on the night of the 3rd.
... I am still not happy with celebrating the big party on the 3rd (big feast with lots of people and dead animals), but I was overruled by the wife.
I remember one New Year's Eve party back home while fireworks and firecrackers were banned. The party was being hosted by one of my mother's high school friends and featured quite a spectacular show of aerials being launched over the water. Someone asked if they were worried about the police coming in to bust them for the illegal display -- the host shrugged his shoulders and pointed off to the side saying, "ask XXXXXX". XXXXX was chief of police at the time. [Coffee] Funny enough, we didn't have any problems with unexpected visitors that night.
I would love to fly my quadcopter into a fireworks display (within reason)
I remember as a kid July 4th was open season on safety and reason. "I don't care he's only 6, dammit. Give 'im the Black Cats and a lighter. He's gotta learn how to do it sooner or later. Now you make sure you thow that thang before the fuse gets too short." :)
Seriously. A bag full of fireworks or all sorts, some "punks" and we were off on an evening of fun and adventure. Can't believe I still have all my fingers.
Oh...and we didn't even wear helmets back then.

I live in Westminster and from my looking we have some of the more relaxed laws on fireworks. I used to go to Wyoming every year and spend too much $$ on the good stuff. This year we are skipping Wyo and decided to go to the local stand last night. Bought a few items to sample and will buy more of the ones we liked. So far, we have a few really good winners. Some are amazingly loud for "legal". Was at a buddies last night lighting some legal stuff of (well, legal if it were the 3rd of July per the rules) and his neighbor started to bitch. Yelled at us and asked if what we were doing was necessary. It was 9:15pm. Sooooo we kindly had a smart ass response about it being necessary becaise MERICA and stopped. Tonight we will be drinking beer and igniting more in my yard. My neighbors don't care and usually respond by lighting off their stuff. One year it turned into a contest between 3 homes. Attracted a crowd of about 100 people and was quite the spectacle. Westminster police stopped by and told us we had to stop at midnight, but to continue our fun. They had a few sausage sandwiches while they were here. LOVE fireworks.
Shell Crackers, out of the 12 gauge are aLos awesome. Basically an m-80 shoots out of the barrel and splodes really good about 100 yards out. Can't find them reasonably priced anymore. Used to buy them from a small shop off of federal and i70.
I am lucky to still have all of my digits as well.
Roman candle fights were the best.
We'd tape them on to the handlebars of our bikes and ride towards each other. It was like dogfighting on Schwins. Freakin' awesome.Quote:

When I was a kid I legitimately wanted to work in pyrotechnics for movies and fireworks displays. I made some of my own that were pretty good and of course always had plenty of mortars and various rockets. In high school, I would work all year long just so I could go spend $1000+ on fireworks. In my town here in CA, there is a $1500 fine (for first offense) for anything that explodes, leaves the ground, makes too much noise/fire/etc., and just about anything that is fun is illegal. Wildfires are a much bigger problem in CA then CO, but the town I live in is surrounded by farm fields, not forest. *Le sigh...*

Bottle rocket wars. I have a great scar on my knee from such an event. 22 stitches if I remember right. We were crawling around a vacant lot in the weeds to sneak up on the enemy. Cut my knee on an old car hubcap hidden in the grass.
Our neighborhood has a lot of vets with PTSD. My neighbor across the street is a Khe Sanh vet, and as it gets closer to the 4th, he looks more and more haggard because of the idiots that are setting off very LOUD fireworks, right in people's back yards. Our yards are smaller than 1/4 acre, and there's always debris from the noisy things. I'm very glad it's been so wet this year, because previous years have had small grass fires stat from people's carelessness.
That's not even taking the pets into consideration, either.
I remember it being different when growing up- but we always went with a whole group of neighborhood kids and adults down to the gravel pit and set things off.
I'm torn. Yay, Independance Day! But my heart goes out to the people suffering from PTSD. :/
I was just going to post that there is a lady on my Nextdoor site complaining about her skittish dog and husband with PTSD.
