Taking from another thread on 9's , what are you guys carrying that you possibly bet your life on.
9 times out of 10 a 45ACP. My wife carry's a 40S&W and she is about to start carrying my XD45 instead as I am trying to downsize the ammo I buy to one round. My oldest boy (11) can handle my 1911 and Xd just fine. Hits on target etc extremely well. No doubt if he had to defend the family, as I work on the road, he will be able to do it effectivly. My daughter and middle son both are proficient with my wife's G23, so I have no doubt that between the 4 of them when I am gone, things will be handled adequatly.
really it's a matter of clothing for me. Going between 9mm and .45 depending on weather and clothing choices for the day. I've got several friends that carry .380 even. What it comes down to is what can you hit your target consistently under stress with.
I chose not to vote since it's entirely dependent on the weather and how I'm dressed. I can carry anything from .32 up to .45. If I have a choice, I take the 45. It looks like a 105mm Howitzer from the dangerous end and shoots really big bullets. Conversely, I can conceal my tomcat in shorts and a tank-top. Man's gotta have choices in life.
If weight and bulk aren't an issue, I'd rather carry my 1911 but it's not exactly convenient in the summer when I'm wearing shorts and a T-shirt. I'd rather carry 9mm than nothing at all so when bulk and weight are an issue, I carry my M&P 9c which tucks inside my pocket with nary a trace ...
80% of the time I carry my keltec .32 auto. because it drops in my pocket and I dont have to ware a vest or baggy shirt. I found that once I got my kel tec I carry about 99% of the time. its not the biggest gun but you put 8 71gr silver tips in someones chest, I am pretty sure they will go down :)

I'm usually carrying a S&W Model 642 J-frame in 38 Special +P.
Loaded, and including the holster, it weighs in right at 19.5oz.
I've been seeing some of the new .380's that look pretty slick. I'm not generally a fan of the .380 though, and I HATE when 380 brass winds up in my 9mm bucket.
If I were to move to something different, it would probably be in 9mm.

I should of not voted like SA Friday because I too carry depending on weather. Almost the entire summer I carried the 340PD w/crimson trace. Gun is light and I can put it in a cargo pocket. During the winter my 40's come out since the heavy clothes are less likely to print.
.45acp all the way.

When I feel the need to carry it is always a G20 10mm. Bianchi Black Widow helps conceal it. (minimalist holster)
I have sold all my 45ACP's, still have some 9mm and 40's. Love the reliability of the revolver in 38 special or 357 magnum. Pocket 5 shot revolvers are small too.
Long story short... any gun is better than no gun when you need one.
38spl+p or 9mm, possibly 22LR depending...
.40 S&W and .380. I've been thinking of getting an ankle holster for my G27, since I've been carrying my G23 IWB and the .380 on the ankle, but I think it might be a tad to bulky.
Glock 23 95% of the time... full-size 1911 every now and then.
Im curious, I am 5'10'' and around 170lbs with an average build. No tummy or anything. I can carry my 1911 full size in t shirt and shorts with no issues with my IWB. Do you guys really worry about a slight bulge or corner of your firearm "printing" (printing isnt the right word as no one has ever noticed if I was carrying, even my kids cant tell).
I have come to the conclusion, people do not pay any attention to what is at your waist. I do know though , gun owners and CCW holders are more alert to their surroundings and can tell when someone is carrying. I enjoy seeing that I am not the only one carrying.
ETA: The only concealed holsters I have are the Super Tuck IWB from Crossbreed Holsters. Super comfortable and I can wear them all day doing any activity. FWIW
9mm or .380, although I really don't carry yet.
