Inspect Your Carry-On Bags Closely:

A Lewiston, ID man was briefly detained when TSA officers found a loaded NAA .22WMR revolver in his carry-on bag. Lewiston PD officers responded and the man explained he packed hastily for a last-minute business trip and overlooked the gun. Lewiston PD officers took the man's gun "for safekeeping until he returns to town." The man went on his way without any other issues.

That's the way it's supposed to work when Joe Average makes a mistake. Kudos to the TSA officers (ouch...that really hurt) and Lewiston PD officers for not making this into something it didn't need to be.

I accidently tried to carry on 3 115 grain 9mm a couple years back at dia

had to talk to some denver pd and sign stuff but it only delayed me around 4 minutes total.

Flew to TX over New Years. On the train from Union Station to DIA and had that "OH SHIAT" moment. Luckily the day bag pocket was empty but what a sinking feeling.

I had a 5.56 dummy round (Azoom - metal) in my carry on last time I traveled. Noticed it when I got to my destination, just threw it back in my bag and didn't hear anything about it. The time before that was the same bag and I had a 230g Ranger T in there; noticed again after I went through DIA security and got to my destination but I threw that one away before going back to the airport. A tiny part of me died that day, it's like dumping good beer down the drain.

Even if they let you go without much hassle, if you have TSA Pre and make a mistake like that, your Pre status is gone for at least 1 year....

I was waiting in line to check a firearm at DIA about a year ago, I'm sure many of you know the drill.

Fellow ahead of me was doing the same. Firstly, he had managed to pack a significant amount of firearms in one large, hard-sided rifle case. Secondly, he had stupidly loaded them, loaded every extra magazine, and had a quantity of extra ammo in there as well. Basically had created quite a haphazard display. The airport police quickly arrived and were not in a pleasant mood and I don't blame them (it was 4:00 am). But the long and short of it was he had to unload everything, get an angry dressing down from the Police, his picture was taken, forms were filled out, and so on. Much to my surprise, he was allowed to complete his check-in and I assume got on the plane with his firearms.

I was frustrated as whenever I do this I arrive plenty ahead of time just to make sure no problems arise. This was more than I had planned for and I came close to missing my flight. But all was well.

Don't use luggage as a range bag ... don't use a range bag as luggage.

I had a backpack that I used to take to gun shows to haul my purchases.

Took it as a carry on bag on a trip to Florida.

Somehow during the screening process it was flagged for "explosives".

They searched it and swabbed it with something and then they sent me on my way.

I'm definitely going to have to agree with Zundfolge.

I got pulled for a random swab and came up positive.

Had been processing brass the weekend/day before. Nothing else.

Same, funny thing though...I was doing some reloading the night before I left for Whorelando, spent the entire week on the golf course and the pool/hot tub and got flagged on my way back. Boy was I a handful ;)

After all that relaxation, I bet you were super loose.

I flew for a little over 4 years around the World with the same carry on bag. My carry on bag got searched repeatedly before each trip and was never used after my travels because of where I was going; it got put up in a locker. Well, after 4 years of flying with it Dubai discovered a live .22 LR cartridge, although highly corroded, stuck in the webbing. I was detained for a while but they let me go with a warning, luckily. All ammunition, firearms, and knives are illegal there. The arresting officer didn't even know what it was and thought it had been fired already. When I told him it had not been fired he was scared "it would blow up in his hand."
