Hey everyone. So I have a Mauser 98 receiver that someone "ruined"(drilled for a scope mount and removed the crest).It has been sitting on the shelf and I think I need to do something with it. I was thinking of making it a 6.5x47 shooter, but wanted everyone's input on what they would turn it into, or if they would even bother.
I'd stare at it before deciding what caliber to build. Price out parts then if you're not doing it, what a smith will charge to do so.
Since i have a few LR bolt actions i'd do one of these, suppressed.

Lol yea a Mauser is about the only thing I have trouble parting with. I'll look sometime through all my boxes of "stuff" and see if I have any more 98s. A few back I picked a few up from a guy on the basis of more stuff is always better

Just a FYI. While i like the Lg Ring Mauser for projects. When you weigh the aftermarket support for the Mauser vs a 700 action.
In the long run it might be advantageous to start from scratch with a 700 receiver. They run $360ish from Buds Guns, aftermarket (rifle stocks) $200, barrel $300. Unless you go with a detachable mag build, i have a complete 700 bottom metal set up sitting here.
Yup unless you're doing your own stunts you'll go upside down on Mauser action builds pretty quick. If you want to part with any, let us know.

Well last night between renewing my driver's license and making it home I stopped by a pawn shop and ending up getting a savage 11 in 260 REM. It was pretty clean. The wood has a few light scratches, but it had been sitting there for a while. They had it marked at 500$ I got them to 250. Good buy or no?

That's what I figured, but I was thinking 1. I like having guns 2. It's one I don't have 3. I could get 250$ back out of it no problem 4. One day the kid will need a gun( that's the excuses of at least 5 of them, no wonder they say kids are expensive lol). I need to tear it apart tonight and see if it's a stock trigger. It doesn't seem to have much weight to it, and seems like there is no slack to the pull. If it's a stock trigger, and I decide to build on it I was thinking a timney. But I'm not sure the market for triggers on that gun I'll probably change the stock at some point. Am I correct in it's almost the same as a savage 10?
There's several different savage base models the 11 falls in there with the 10s. Even if you get a 10 the bottom metal / stocks aren't all the same you have to measure distance to action screws
