Headed on a trip for a few days in a couple months , what are your home securing tactics ? Some will be obvious , others might be things I hadn't thought of. Light timers ect...
Neighbors arnt friends or anything , friend/ landlord will stop by at least once.
What are your tricks ?
Fill out a security check form with your local PD. Put a stop / hold on mail delivery. Have someone pick up any local paper that gets delivered, over the fence, or out of sight.
The question to you and everyone else is . Do you keep outside lights on at night all the time, or only when on vacation / out of town?
Since you're going to be gone for a long time period. Have who ever you trusted to check on the house run the water down every drain weekly, as well as flush the toilet[s] . If not you will get sewer gas build up. Who's cutting the lawn and watering? How many people do you have taking care of the house? How many people know you'll be gone?
We have 1 person handle everything, with a secondary back up who all stay in touch.
With that said 2-3 days before leaving for an extended period of time is a little late to cover your bases.
Exterior lights are on photocells , grass will be mowed right before I leave , and we won't be gone long enough for it to grow like longer than usual or for the traps to dry out. I've got a handful of people I trust that can come over if called , Mail stop is set .
The security check from PD is not something I've heard of , thank you.
Leave the TV on, fairly loud. Plenty of studies have shown that burglars won't break into a noisy house.
It should be on when people in the residence are normally home. To a serious B&E a 24/7 tv is give away. The 24/7 on is when you're in a hotel roomQuote:

I guess you could put the tv on a timer for that. Due to crazy schedules differing between those who live in my home, 24/7 TV isn't abnormal.Quote:

Good points also , I should mention we do have a alarm system with some remote capability and one camera.
I guess I'm lucky in that I have friends that will stay at the house. I've used it in an emergency and I was gone for weeks. The dogs were taken care of, the house was secure. I'm friends with my neighbors and they 'know' to let me know when things aren't right.
I'm friends with the local PD who lives down the road. He was a bit shocked that I knew till I told him how. He knows how much I work and he lets the dogs out on occasion.. which is apparently hilarious for rookies (if you've ever been here you know how vicious my dog is).
It's not hard to secure you're home. Don't be afraid to make friends with the neighbors.. I have keys to three of my neighbors. They know they can come to me for all kinds of help.. I've even loaned out my chainsaw and gotten it back.
There are a few members in the area, and I bet if I had to ask they'd check on the house as well.

App controlled belt fed sentry gun on a small tracked RC truck is all I've ever done.
My neighbor across the street is pretty good about picking up the piles of newspapers and door fliers that accumulate when we are gone.
Otherwise, I shut off the water and set the heat for 55° in the winter, fill out the police drive-by form, and let Jim know we'll be out of town.
Since I live in a mobile home I'd be scared he'd hook it up and my whole house would be gone upon return [Sarcasm2]Quote:
