Hi guys, I am planing to buy some military rifle( AK-47, SKS or other) and I would like to use it for hunting too in the future. Do you have any suggestions, is it legal?

Talking out my ass here but......
Meet the requirements of caliber for the intended game. Think about velocity and weight of the projectile as well.
The intended rifle can only be capable of loading 5 rounds total as I recall as well. Meaning any magazine would have to be permanently blocked.(not sure about that) But weapons such as 1917's and 1903's would work with the proper ammunition in 30-06
But I still must ask why (dont own a hunting rifle?)and what weapon you were intending to use?

LEGAL HUNTING METHODS
1. CENTERFIRE RIFLES
a. Must be min. .24 caliber (6 mm).
b. Must have min. a 16-inch barrel and be at least 26 inches long.
c. If semiautomatic, they can hold max. of 6 rounds in the magazine and
chamber combined.
d. Must use expanding bullets that weigh min. 70 grains for deer, pronghorn
and bear, 85 grains for elk and moose, and have an impact energy (at
100 yds.) of 1,000-ft. pounds as rated by manufacturer.

SKS, you would either have to get a 5 round mag or block the mag in such a way that it would not be "easily" removed..
The MN would be the best bet.. It would have the power and range that the 7.62X39mm lacks. Plus with the M44, if you're close enough, You could shoot and BBQ at the same time. [Tooth]

Should i look for 1891/30 rifle. Is there big accuracy difference between 1891/30 rifle and M44 Carbine?

Either will shoot accurately enough for big game out to any reasonable distance (~250 yards iron sight) with proper ammo. Be careful, though, most of 'em were bored .310-.311 and will digest almost anything without issues, but some (mine's a Sako) are .308, and show serious pressure signs with commercial hunting ammo. The accuracy on mine bites with the bigger bullets too, but it's a tack driver out past 500 yards with 168 grain .308 bullets in handloads.Quote:

Scotties Militaria on Colfax has mosins. Get one with a good bore. I've had a M44 which was accurate enough out to 200 yards, it was counterbored but bright and shiny with solid lands/grooves.
I had a 91/30 once that wouldn't group at all with any ammo. Fun to shoot but not for hunting. Don't worry about the bayonet. Mine felt more balanced when extended but was just as accurate folded. The biggest benefit is you can run the deer/elk through if you don't get a clean kill.
You can find Mosins for $100 but be sure to drop the bolt and check the bore. One with a good bore that has not been counterbored will run you about $125-150.
Get the 91/30. Some are accurate some are not. The m44 is too short and most of them have been counter bored so accuracy may be spoty.
Forget the Mosin, get a FAL! It's .308, 5 round magazines are easy to come by and it's more than accurate enough. Here's some pics of mine.

I just received this rifle as a gift from the Familiy. I was also thinking of using it to hunt with the 5 rd. mags to see the looks I would get from some of the traditional bolt gun snobs. Or picking up an FAL.Quote:

I haven't done it yet, but I plan on hunting deer with my Dragunov. And why the hell not? It's semi-auto, chambered in 7.62x54, and it's hella accurate.
I can't wait to see the look on my old man's face when I pull that thing out of the case.
I've taken my M1A hunting before, using 5 round magazines. Mostly because I had people tell me that it wasn't a hunting rifle. It may be a little heavy, but it works just as well as my 700BDL in .308, and the follow up shots were quite a bit faster. Not that I needed them, except on a couple of pigs. It also gives you the advantage of multiple shots on multiple coyotes. Mighty handy when there are 5 of them standing there looking at you, all within a foot or two of each other. Plus, you can swap stocks on an M1A/M14 easily. I have my "Pig Tactical" stock for hunting, which is a GI synthetic with 3 rails on the fore-end. Works like a champ. I have a couple Springfield Gen 3 scope mounts, so I have 2 different scopes I can choose between for different hunting applications. Plus if you want, you can get another Gen 3 and put an ATN night scope on it for those pigs! Try doing all this with a Remington 700 or Savage 110! You can do the same with a flattop AR, just use a LaRue QD lever mount(s).

The term "hunting rifle" is all relative, HK91's were advertised in the states as hunting rifles and came with 5rnd magazines. I can remember the ad, it showed a guy sitting in deer stand in the woods holding the rifle. I tried a quick google of it but couldnt' find one of the ads. Of course we now know that an HK91 is really a terrible, terrible, "Ass#$%st R@#$e", so it was banned from importation. Not sure if that was to protect us or the deer.
Personally, I would think it a bit heavy for hunting, and I suspect that is typically why synthetic bolt actions are very popular and inexpensive.
Theoretically, military rifles are preferred choices for hunting, after all, they are field engineered and proven.
I think the editor in this month of G&A mentioned that and explains why the AR platform is naturally an excellent choice and transition to a hunting rifle, anyway now i'm just rambling.

You can still find HK-91's around used. I did a quick search on Cabela's website and found one. I've carried VEPR II's (.308), .50 Beowulf, and MN M-44 when hunting. The biggest handicap with the MN is that its a royal pain to cock it or take the safety off. No snap shots with it.
If you really want a MN to hunt with consider the M-38. Just like the M-44 without the bayonet.
This fall I'll be going after antelope, deer and elk with my 6.5 Grendel with some 129Gr handloads.
Oh and Car-15, you're right about those 5 rnd hunting mags. for the Grendel its $15 for a 30 rnd, $39.99 for a 5 rnd. ouch
