If you're looking to be able to swap back and forth, the CMMG kit is great. Works reliably and is very easy to change back and forth.
It's just a drop in bolt and .22lr AR magazines. They have them in Colorado compliant versions as well.

Have you thought about just getting an MP 15-22? The cost difference is negligible when you look at the benefits of a dedicated one.Quote:

I have used a variety in one of the 15-22 to check function, but in general I use the Aguila copper plated stuff.

I built a dedicated .22 modeled after my go to gun with how cheap components are right now it's a great option.
I would look at a 22lr dedicated upper. I was not satisfied with the accuracy of the CMMG conversion and sold it. It was reliable if used with CCI Mini-Mags or similar. Issue was past 50 yards the accuracy was pretty poor. It also made the barrel and action quite messy.

Never done a dedicated upper. Have had the CMMG and now 2 15-22's. Between the two, I prefer the 15-22 due to its set config, lack of need to clean barrel every time I shoot, and the fact that it's an insular system rather than a system modification.
Surely there is a member near you which would let you try out the 15-22.
I thought the same thing. for the cost of a dedicated upper, you can likely get the 15-22. Unless you want a Compass Lake or really fine 22 upper, you should be good with accuracy and reliability. I even picked up 15-22 mags before the BS laws were enacted, still in the wrapper [Roll1]Quote:

Zach O and I were out with it a couple of months ago shooting at a 6" plate at 300 yards. We literally never missed once we got the wind dialed in. It's heavy, so it feels like a real AR. I also have a 15-22, and it's fun to shoot, too. I use my Nordic as a precision trainer for my competition AR, and it fills that role perfectly. I use the 15-22 for steel challenge shooting, and it's great for that.
The Nordic likes to be clean. I generally shoot dirty Eley ammo (dirty but accurate), and it likes to have the action scrubbed out every 200 rounds or less or it starts to malfunction. I've never yet cleaned the 15-22, and it runs like a sewing machine.
