I did mine the other day. Like the new system. Did 3 accounts, one for each of the boys and myself. Took 12 minutes per account to set up, apply for 4 species and get the small game combo licenses.
If your info is not in the system, or you have to email verifications, that is the slowdown.
You beat me to it! I was gonna post a reminder tonight.
I like the new system too. It was very smooth for me.
Every year it comes sooner than I think. Thanks for the reminder. So we don't have to pay until we actually draw tags now? Is that correct?
Well, you pay the auxiliary fees up front right?
Yeah, $3 per tag, plus $10 Habitat Stamp.
Excellent!
Is it also true you don't have to pay for your fishing license until you catch a fish? If so, I'm due for years of refunds...
Seems I read, if you've renewed your DL within the last six months, you have to do something "special". Maybe go in person somewhere? Sorry, I don't remember and can't find it right now. Maybe someone else saw it also?
That was I that had the issue getting credit for being a resident because I had just renewed my license. In the interest of full disclosure, I had let my license expire and was in the grace period when I renewed. So I think I may have gotten a new "Issue Date," and that is my problem. If the "issue date" on your license is six months or older, you should not have a problem getting credit for being a resident. Just wanted to clear that up.

Hunting legally in Colorado = too many hoops to jump through plus too much $ spent to be enjoyable.
Easiest method is to use your CID number off you hunter education card or previous license. I had to renew my drivers license a few months ago and the registration process on the new site only took me a couple of minutes. If you don't have access to your CID number or an old tag, then you are required to call the DOD to login. Pretty smooth and easy but this new process will hurt the chance of drawing trophy unit tags that require multiple points especially for moose, big horn etc from not having to pay the entire amount. It'll open up a lot more people that will apply now. Just how I see it.
Can't even access the site right now. Shouldn't all these hunters be at work!
I did ours this past weekend. The site always got borked on the old platform, so I assumed the new site would be even worse so I made sure I did it ahead of time. With all the applications being $3 now I imagine the application numbers will sky rocket. Will be interesting to see the draw numbers after it is all said and done.
It's up now.
I got mine done this morning and was impressed with how easy it was. Can't say I'm happy about the simple $3 application fee instead of the full amount but oh well.
I had the same surprisingly easy experience. I felt the same way about only paying for points up front, but the fact that you give a credit card number (wish they took AMEX!) and they immediately charge you if you drew might help to deter everyone in the world from putting in.
2 days left bump
Put in the other night. Also renewed my small game license. *fingers crossed*
It's down to the wire now. I like the new system and encountered no glitches this time, but it took longer because even with the CID #, one has to set up an account with a password. Also, the brochures and statistics tables took a long time to load. Glad I did it Friday.
This year I put in for buck deer and pronghorn, cow elk, bull moose, bighorn ram, and bear. In July, I'll also pick up an over the counter bull elk tag, and a bear tag if I don't draw one.
I might get lucky on moose as this is my 19th consecutive year applying.... Maybe that big bull will saunter through our yard again so I won't have to pack it farther than the kitchen for butchering.
Good luck and good hunting everyone!
Weird. Wonder if they’ve gone to a different color scheme for annuals vs seasonals.
I watch other game warden shows on TV and they use different colors for the year. So they ask someone to see their fishing license and right away when the person pulls it out they know its the wrong/right year based on the color. They also added a Bar/QR code type thing to the bottom of the license, wonder if they are integrating some kind of scanning they can use to verify the license without having to call it in or look it up in the truck. I will see how it works when I get stopped 4 times during deer season as usual.
They have a pretty big chicken and egg software problem for first time youth participants.
If your young kid is BRAND NEW to the system (no past fishing, small game or other licenses), you can't get past the following secondary identifier step online to establish their CID# and move forward with the application process.
How many 12 year olds have one of the following??????
CID (duh, that's what we are trying to get...)
CO Drivers License / ID
US Drivers License
Passport (maybe a few...)
Green Card
US Military ID
Employment Authorization Card
Tribal Identification Card
Certificate of Naturalization
Certificate of US Citizenship
Colorado Department of Correction ID
Federal Bureau of Prisons ID
Why can't you just use a SSN? You have to put it in later anyway.
Did you use the lookup link near the top of the first page first for the existing CID? that's where i was goofing it up (had to call them)
I saw someone else said to use the parent's DL, but I had problems with that on my own account on Reserve America.
P.S. the guy on support said that soon (don't recall the date) you won't be able to reserve CO campgrounds on Reserve America directly but will have to go through the CPW site (though they use the same back end).
My son has never had a CID, and being 12, had NONE of the other forms of acceptable ID. I put his SSN into the DL box, got him tied into our group hunt, and called the DOW. Surprisingly, I was able to speak to a real person after only a couple minutes of hold music. She pulled up his record, and deleted the DL information, so we should be good to go now. She stated she would report this problem to the software folks for correction.
As always, thanks to you guys who remind those of us who are more forgetful.
We hunt out East for White-tail and every year there are 3-5 wardens out there. One year we got checked by the same guy twice and I asked if he was trying to harass us on purpose and he still asked to see our licenses and check our guns again. Then another guy checked us in the afternoon and said we already talked to Officer whatever his name was two times and he said yeah but I haven't and checked us again. I think last year was the first time I haven't been checked out there cause it was the local officer and he knows who we are.
Anyone ever had a DOW/CPW officer interrupt actual hunting, like stalking up on an animal and all the sudden you hear, "hullo there!"?
Not that I have seen hunting elk- Usually they are in some form of vehicle just cruising the roadways.
The first time I was asked was NW of Granby. I was 16, carrying my 8 mm Gewehr 88 with a .38 Enfield on my hip. I think the game warden was upset when he found I was squared away- proper license, hunters safety card, legal firearm, and kinda went away in a huff...
Question -- When I applied for deer and elk, I obviously bought the habitat stamp at that time. I also checked out with small game annual. This morning I went to Sportsmans and had them print out my small game license, but it doesn't show the Habitat Stamp. I definitely paid for it to CPW, based on my receipt. I just logged in and confirmed that it was purchased
Is this a problem and do I need to get the small game reprinted w/ Habitat Stamp, or would CPW just see it if they were to stop me and look it up?

I just checked my small game/fur bearer/fishing/extra rod stamp license that was mailed to me and it does not have anything about a Habitat Stamp on it. I assume the Habitat Stamp is only for big game and fowl, but of course I'm pretty new to hunting so am not sure.
