Between the government regulation of everything, constant electronic surveillance of everything (albeit, some voluntary) and the constant state of war that this country seems to love, we are living "Atlas Shrugged" and "1984" at the same time. [facepalm]

I like how they do this after suing their competitor out of business. Course I've had a chip on my shoulder about them for various small reasons over the years with things I've read. If nothing else being fucking whores with how much they charged for basically a gutted normal stock with a little extra injection molding attached.

Congratulations to Jeremiah Cottle for coming up with a successful product.

Fitz, let’s be honest. Most gun parts and even guns aren’t exactly complicated. At some point one has to make a profit to recoup R&D, legal fees, operational overhead, etc. I don’t begrudge the dude for doing just that. Trijicon has more of a WTF factor for what they charge for the ACOG than SlideFire did for their product.

He didn't invent it. Akins Accelerator was first.

The guy who used his belt loop was the first and will not be the last.

In 94 the [panic] over buying an AR had reached insane heights leading up to the 9/94 law. After 9/94 muzzle brakes, fixed (non-adjustable) carbine stocks and front sight post sans bayonet lug were on the market within months.

1999 was worse between Y2K and CA passing a more stringent law with Registration. Until last year CA gun owners had all sorts of ways of staying compliant yet amassing more guns with "evil features"

What disappears and , or, becomes banned now will morph in to some other variation later.

And if the administration gets what they desire, that would have the same penalty as having a DIAS in one's possession...
If one were a criminal intent of running afoul of the ATF rules on "machine guns", I think one would rather build the real thing than a stock with a broken latch and a handle attached.

I don't quite agree. /shrug. Granted I do think acogs are very spendy, but they were fairly advanced when they very first came out and had far more R&D to create I imagine. I'm not one of the assholes that thinks any new plastic part should be $20 either however.

$250 was rather ballsy, and especially since they never as they saw success gradually maybe drop it a bit as they saw great sales that had to have covered any costs. Instead of being competitive in the market, they sued any other competitor on features that shouldn't be patentable. It's in every right they had to sell it the way they did, just doesn't mean I can't think they were ass hats for it.

I don't complain about the price... I'm just not going to pay it. He had a patent, he defended it and was able to sell his product, make millions and employ a bunch of people- good for him.
I'd be more inclined to build one for my own use if I thought it was beneficial... I never saw a need for one... there's maybe a price where I would buy one- but it's nowhere near $250

And if they determine that bump stocks are "machine guns", then owning them would be a felony with the same penalty as a Drop-in Auto Sear.

ETA: I personally would not enter into a business making firearm accessories in this political climate- too risky and unpredictable. But building something for your own use does not make you a manufacturer.

I find it sad that a reputable company is suffering so dearly due to a single misuse of there product by a deranged individual.

I don't think you'll find a single person here to disagree with you... it's not just the company, the Texas town of Moran has now had the economic boon they have seen over the past few years stripped away, and the median income there will likely drop by half (no exaggeration)

Who is John Galt?

Theory: The Slide Fire guy shut his business down voluntarily. This will result in two things happening.

1.) ATF will decide not to reclassify bump stocks as NFA items because they know they don't have any hope of ever enforcing that law due to how many are already out in the wild.
2.) Any future attempts to manufacture and sell bump-fire devices will be explicitly disallowed by ATF and they will cite the Akins Accelerator as precedent.

This allows them an out. With no bump stocks being made, there's no reason for congress or the ATF to pass new legislation or reinterpret existing regulations. The upshot is we don't have to assume that any regulation change or new law banning bump stocks will be the proverbial camel's nose under the tent for more gun control. Unfortunately, for bump stock enthusiasts, they're going not going to be able to order these things off of Amazon any more.
