Nice Leather boot care products?

I've usually had cheap issued or just cheapish duty/tactical type boots. Some cheap stuff from the asian market got me by for years with occasional use. But I finally went out and got a really nice pair of $160 boots, and looking to try and take care of them. Already losing some luster and can see a few scuffs in the surface grain. Can brush it one way and see it lay down a bit. Good at stubbing my boots into things, but also seeing some use on my motorcycle shifter.


Any stand out products I should look at to try and take care of these boots, or just get whatever cheap Kiwi or whatever off amazon?

I use this stuff. It keeps the leather decent while I destroy the soles on my work boots. A good quality, well known/respected, work boot will last me 13-14 months on average.

For dark heavy leather, I use Huberd’s oil. For lighter leathers’ I use Skidmore’s shoe cream. Both do a nice job of moistening and protecting leather.

Guess I should say if it matters, yes black boots. Ideally I want a little shine to them, but certainly not any kind of see your face in them kind of deal.

re: Motorcycle shifter: I remember a lot of guys in the Army would cut a sock off and use the tube portion over their left boot where the shifter impacts. Keeps that gear shift scuff off the boot.

Obenaufs lp is the only stuff I use on boots. Prob won’t ever see a shine though.

I will never use an oil based product on leather. The reason it makes is softer: it breaks down the leather fibers.
NikWax or SnoSeal for boots, Lexol for anything else but suede.

Lightly wash & scrub the dirt off with mild soap and water in a tub, let thuroughly dry, then apply liberty, let it soak in and wipe off excess.
My boots lasted through two resolings.

If you want shine,you need shoe polish. Redwing oil has been my go to for 20 years. With lots of Snoseal in the wet months. Too much oil does make the leather stretch. Bee's wax products less of an issue. Who has shiny work boots?

Stupid federal contract gigs. Not really enforced other than boot cant be all scuffed to shit. Boots have to be basically mostly "shinable" surface. Doesn't actually get made to be done like when I was in boot or anything. So my biggest concern was just taking care of these higher end of the Bates line. Seemed concerning after a month or two, I can see how the grain surface can wipe to one side or another from the scuffs.
