I was up on the roof fixing some trim and inspected the shingles after the last set of hail. No holes, or "hammer" spots, but I did find a lot of the sand from the shingles in the gutters.
Is this considered hail damage?

No, global granule loss isn't considered to be hail damage. The shingles are basically wear items and granules are expected to be displaced over time. However, if you have specific impact marks where granules have been removed in a circular fashion that exposes the bitumen layer (tar), then that could qualify as hail related damage. Basically circles that expose the black part of the shingle, that aren't blisters.
ETA, you can have both issues at the same time. If you'd like to post some photos of things you're curious about I'd be glad to give you some input. Really can't tell the full story without being there though.
Figured things might be calming down since the last storms... my preferrred place booked thru oct, no bookings after that looking at spring >.< So hunt continues since I dont think my roof can wait thru the winter snows with as many shingles as I'm down.
Agree. 90% of the roofs I inspect for Insurance companies are cases where the adjuster denied a claim, but the homeowner, usually being pushed by a roofing contractor, won't accept that. In half of those, it is because they have some loss of the granules, or their neighbor got a new roof. There are certainly cases where the adjuster is wrong, but they are not common.
My new roof was six days old when we got some golf ball sized hail.
Beat the heck out of my truck but didn’t hurt the new roof.
I’m guessing the roof being as new as it was hadn’t fully flattened out (if that makes sense) so it absorbed the blows.
It was crazy loud in the house though.
My neighbors obviously didn’t fare as well. Pretty sure every house within a four mile radius is getting a new roof. Sounds like a Mexican war zone with all of the Spanish being spoken and the air nailers going off every day.
I have golfball sized (and bigger) holes THROUGH my carport decking and insurance says it's not hail damage... ummm... what? lol. They are saying they won't cover it cause one little corner of the carport plywood has a small spot of mold/decay so they are claiming that we didn't take care of the roof so therefore it's not blah blah blah... insurance, I still say it's a scam.
Just taking what you said at face value, that does not sound right. I'd certainly pursue that if I were you. While I would not advise hiring a Public Adjuster, you can go DORA, Division of Insurance and file a complaint: https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dor...sion-insurance
Through the shingles and the decking?
ETA: even if the decking is rotted from continuous exposure to moisture (which by itself is specifically excluded), if hail physically damaged the decking by punching holes through it, I would say that should still be covered. Mark has the right idea with filling a DOI complaint. DOI complaints must be addressed by the carrier, at the risk of losing their license to do business in the state. DOI complaints are not toothless like calling the BBB.
Fighting with insurance sucks. They totaled my roof but wont do anything about my siding and ac unit.
What kind of siding and what kind of damage? Only thing I've ever done for A/C is to put in to have it combed.
AC needs to combed and it broke the bay vent. Siding is wood, splinterd the edges and some of the dents are splinterd up. I just don't want water getting in and freezing and breaking up the siding.
Anyone know of a reputable roofer in Lakewood?
Well, it was our turn last night in Dacono. We had 20-30 minutes of 1? to 1 1/4? hail. Started impacting the north face of the house and ended up impacting the south face near the end of the storm.
I really don?t want to file a claim for no reason. I?m expecting once the house dries I will see some marks in the paint. I already see some chips in the vinyl edges of the window. Does insurance typically replace windows for that type of damage? Or repaint for hail spots (I?m thinking a good power wash would fix the paint).
Trees were decimated. Backyard willow was nearly denuded.

Neighbors behind us lost glass.

My windows and screens just have minor damage. Are these chips in the plastic/vinyl worth looking into repair?

That chip is a broken window frame that warrents replacement of the whole window.
By the time you arrive at broken window frame and glass, it's a great chance that your roof is damaged. Sorry to hear.
Thanks Irving, I was hoping you would respond.
We have a 3 year old roof with Owens Corning Duration STORM class 4 shingles. What are the chances the class 4 did its job and withstood the storm?
On a side note, I didn?t notice much damage to our vehicles. Is that any indication of or have any correlation to roof damage?
Truck doesn?t quite fit!

And the fly-by-night door knockers are already canvassing the neighborhood...

Generally vehicles will show dents before a roof will show damage, but that's not a very strong rule of thumb. Class 4 is rated to withstand impacts from hail that is 1/4" larger than a non-class 4 shingle. With broken window you very well may have damage. One thing that Class 4 does well is to shrug off impacts on the leeward side in very directional storms, or on stepper roofs. This means you can have one or two sides totalled, with either nothing, or just a repair on the other roof slopes.
On another note, allegedly there was 5.5" hail in Bethune last night, which breaks the state record by an inch! I was actually driving into that storm last night but got held up in Kit Carson and the storm went off to the side of the highway.
The world record hail is 8" and was in South Dakota.
Wow! We had softball sized hail in Ohio when I was a kid. We kept them in the freezer for the adjuster to see. Imagine aluminum siding and windows....
I don?t have broken glass, but 6 damaged window frames on opposite sides of the house. Clear hail marks on both sides of siding.
The roof looks like hell!
