We bought a king size a few years back at American Funiture. Great memory foam/spring king. At the time I had the F250. I payed, pulled around to the dock ready to load up a BIG king sized bed. Out came a box the size of a camping cooler. Could have brought it home on the bus. It popped up to a regular size mattress. I'd buy from one of the local places just so I could try it out. The cost at AFW was about the same as on line. By happenstance, Adam Ruins Everything new episode is on mattresses. Good timing for you.
Can't say anything about the online ones, but we've had a Denver Mattress pillow top king that's still comfy as hell after 12 years.
I had a coworker purchase a Nectar King Size a few months ago - the guy is still raving about how great his sleep is now. He says the whole process and price was exceptional & they have a full year "in home" trial (Can return it any time before the end of the year for a full refund). He was mystified about how small of a box it arrived in and contrary to the manufacturers recommendation to allow it to reinflate for 24 hours before using, he slept on it the first night and still claims it was his best sleep ever.
If I didn't drop over a grand on a new mattress about 3 years ago I'd consider getting a Nectar. Perhaps in a few more years...although, I really HATE the Serta memory foam top I'm sleeping on, so I may not wait a whole lot longer. The damned thing has an invisible, yet noticeable while laying in the bed, trough where I lay. If I move over a bit I end up rolling back into the trough. Because it isn't the same top and bottom I can't flip the mattress. I tried turning it end to end and the Mrs. didn't appreciate the valley.
That's why it's called memory foam. it remembers where you sleep and make sure you return to the nest at night. I've found, like you, the memory foam style, if you sleep off side or one area all the time. You'll be hard pressed to get the mattress to smooth out . Do you rotate it every month or so?Quote:

The last time we mattress-shopped, we went to over a dozen stores before we found the right mattress- the moment I lay down on it, my spine cracked and aligned and the spouse had a similar experience.
I know Purple and other internet companies have convenience on their side, but with personal, subjective things like mattresses, you kind of have to test them and kick the tires before laying out that kind of money.

I finally broke down a few years ago and let my wife buy a Purple. I thought for sure I'd hate it. Damn thing comes rolled up! Turns out I love it! It doesn't have any of that annoying memory foam feeling and is pretty supportive. My only complaint is the side walls aren't terribly firm. I sit on the edge of the bed a lot and have 3 kids that will pile in and force me to sleep on the edge. It could use a bit more support on the sides. But otherwise, its been super nice.
We haven't had any problems with extra dust a few years into owning it. And it doesn't yet have any sunken spots.
PS - we previously had a super high-end name brand mattress that we shopped around for, tried out in store and spend a couple grand on. We like the purple better.
I'm still rocking my 1980's waterbed and wondering how ya'll ever forgot these things existed. ;)

I will say all of these have been purchases with in the last year, so no long term results yet.
I had never heard of a Ghost Bed until now.
The Purple mattress dust issue, non disclosure of what it actually is, and threatening litigation keeps me from looking at them.
It's just dehydrated fracing fluid.
We too have a ghost bed, going on 2 years now and we still love it!
We have a king size foam bed from Slumber Solutions and after 4 years, it's still the most comfortable bed I've owned. We just ordered another one for the spare bedroom. I recommend them to anyone who asks... why spend $3k on a good bed when you can spend $600 for a great one that's shipped to you? One tip though, Slumber Solutions foam is firm so if you like a medium softness, get soft.
After having a Purple for a couple years, I can say we've literally seen no powder or dust from it. None. In my personal experience, the dust issue is a non-issue. From what I've read the "dust" some people have seen is a common form of non-toxic polymer that is used to make sure the thing doesn't stick to itself when it's rolled up tight for shipping.Quote:

Purple also won an injunction as part of a lawsuit against the "reviewer" and GhostBed.
So it's pretty hard to say how much truth there is about the dust issue considering the source.

Our neighbors bought one, can't remember the brand, and it didn't work out for them. In order to get their $2,500 back, instead of returning it to the manufacturer they had to give it away. We gladly took it, it is very comfortable and has been overall great so far. I'll post the brand later.
Sure would be great to have a Caspar, Purple, Ghost and Nectar all lined up to try out and compare.
