We walk our Lab in that general area every morning. Never seen a cat in the six + years we have lived here.
Charlie
Kudos to the runner for not just cashing in his chips. I am wondering what he did to kill the cat?
My family property west of Boulder was overrun by cats in the late 80's to late 90's, and this fact was one of primary reasons why I started carrying a sidearm starting at age 13 on an almost daily basis while outside.
He strangled it to death.
i'd like to see pictures. either a sick cat or a beast of a man to be able to choke out a mountain lion.
Where do you see that he choked it?
I have seen some big cat spoor around Twin Lakes. I have never seen a big cat though. I have seen some big cat spoor around Pikes Peak, up Horsethief Park trail too. I guess he was in a thick brush area.
If the cat gets you by the back of the neck, you are probably doomed.
Meh, I've been chased by cougars before.
Some even liked being choked....
Apparently he had a concealed pillow permit [ROFL2]
The article I read said the cat was about 80 pounds, so either it was sick or young.
They said it was a juvenile, so young. Could have been both.
That poor, poor kitty cat [Cry]
Think the "smothered" in the article title is just the nice way of the press saying that he choked that bitch to death?
That's certainly a story for sitting around the campfire.
"There I was, in my favorite Nike's, dressed like a geek, when suddenly.....ROWR!! I whipped out my concealed-carry-dry-cleaning-bag and suffocated the som-bee-otch."
Young cat trying to get through its first winter. Good job to the runner. He's got one hell of a story to tell his grand kids.
I heard of a story in WY of a guy fending off another young cat with a chainsaw. Again.. They're young, hungry and trying to survive their first winter.
There are more cats around than people think, especially the front range. North table has a couple that keeps the deer herd in check.
He could have at least wore a GoPro camera.
Denver zoo has a great picture outside the mountain lion exhibit - I think it's of a mother and child getting the typical tourist picture taken, and in the grass behind them is a mountain lion - probably eyeing the child.
I guess it wasn't until they looked at the picture later that they noticed the lion.
O2
That would be a badass story to tell to your kids and grandkids!
I just heard that there was a problem with the ambulance, apparently the mans balls would fit through the door.
New twist in story.
The VPC and Gabby Giffords have denounced the killing as senseless. Wanting to know why the jogger couldn't have called 911 instead.
Fellow joggers are rallying round the as of yet unnamed man . Holding signs and chanting
FROM MY COLD SWEATY SHORTS
Am I the only one wondering why the jogger wasn't armed with at least a knife? Maybe he was and simply chose to choke the cat out to validate his man card?
That counts. Post should have come with a warning to set down your drink before reading.
My mom raised three mountain lions for her doctorate years ago, and she concurs it must have been very juvenile. She was wondering if something happened to its mother, since it apparently hadn't properly learned hunting.
CPW posted their interview with Travis Kauffman (he also did a press conference today)

On archerytalk the consensus regarding mountain lion attacks in general is they are usually juveniles.
Wow. Running aware of the sights and sounds in nature, and being in good physical condition probably saved his life. Had he not turned around the cat might have taken him down by the neck and the struggle could have been over very quickly with a very different outcome.
The CPW should do a full taxidermy mount of that kitty and offer or dedicate it to Mr. Kauffman.
Juvenile mtn lion or mtn lion with rabies. If someone can choke out a lion, he is tier of it's own.
Read that they went back and trapped the cat's siblings.
Curious how large the cat really was.
