Pretty sure it's a Stiller tac 30 built to APR's spec, Not certain but it looks like it. nothing new under the sun there, it's a 700 clone. Price is pretty good.
It boils down to what you want or are looking for. There's a ton of good actions out there and there's a lot of good coatings and treatments out there. DLC is OK, but definitely not at the top of my list. BTDT and I'd take a good Nitrided action any day over one that is DLC.
Specifically compared to the TL3, well the TL3 offers a lot of differences that may or may not be a big plus over the APR G2 depending on what you're looking for most notably the ability to change bolt heads and an integral recoil lug. The other differences are controlled feed, and mechanical ejector vs a push feed and spring ejector in the G2. Also a bayonet style fire control group on the TL3 which is nice for cleaning, but can present problems from time to time. Beyond that I mean it's a 700 clone vs a different 700 clone.
$1250 for a TL3 and $825 for the APR G2 Both reputable companies so nothing to worry about there. If you're looking to cut some costs the G2 would be the better option. If looking for the best action there's far better than either out there.
If you're down for the higher price tag, I'd strongly advise adding $100-150 to the budget and go with a Lone peak Fuzion or an Impact 737R. I own both and have owned Bighorns in the past and I can tell you 100% than the TL3 doesn't compete with either when the rubber meats the road when it comes to smooth operation, especially in dirty conditions. There's also some weak points in the TL3 that, should you have an obstructed barrel or other catastrophic failure, allow the bolt to leave the receiver at high speed. I know nobody plans for that, but a very accomplished and normally safe shooter I know got complacent and distracted and took a TL3 bolt to the face that probably wouldn't have happened with a 1-piece bolt design.
Just food for thought.
I think XC7 broke it down well. I am a Bighorn guy and have been running them for years. Between the 2 you listed, I would go TL3 for sure. If you're looking to save some cash the Bighorn Origin is a good option. It does everything the TL3 does, but they are made from chromoly rather than stainless. Chromoly is actual a little smoother. I would definitely pick and Origin over a Stiller action if it was my money. The pre-TL2/TL3 actions were chromoly and are still outstanding.
One thing i really like about the Bighorn and other vendors is that I can use the savage thread vs remmy thread. I have all the tools for the savage, but none for the remmy. The only other requirement for barrel thread would be the machined in recoil lug. I know the APR doesn't have it, but I think the solid 1 piece receiver/lug makes a huge difference. IE, one less thing I have to screw around with...
Yeap, honestly the Origin is pretty damn slick. I have a feeling if they ditched the swept bolt handle on the origin for a straight handle like a TL2/3 they'd have a rough time selling the TL3. Especially at the price point.Quote:

Ok, so you guys got me looking at the origin now...The lone peak, and others do not meet the requirements of the savage barrel thread. I also did some rumaging in the brass section of my bench and found around 400 pieces of lapua srp, 6.5creedmoor brass. I think I want to focus this build on a srp for either the 6cm or where i trim that brass down and turn it into a 6x47L. Am i a crack head for thinking this? This would be a 100% walking gun for varmint poon tang, and yotes...I have a 6mm krieger blank sitting on the shelf, and it needs a home...
I think 6BR would be that ticket for a varmint gun. Less powder, long barrel life and easy to load for. Lots of guys run slow twist (1-13t) in 6BR for varmints. That sends a 80gr bullet at 3100+ with 30 grains of powder. Faster twist barrels (1-8t) are for 105gr +/- at 2850fps. This is what I use for matches.
6creed and 6x47 are barrel burners. Don't waste to much time on brass either. It you want 6x47, simply neck down Lapua 6.5x47. Same with 6.5 creed to 6creed.
Hunt's Long Range has a recoil lug for the Bighorn Origin that will give it the exact same headspace as a TL3 so you could run shouldered TL3 barrels as well as Savage pre-fit barrels with a nut. If your looking at prefits, send me a PM and I can hook you up Mark Chanlynn. He is making his own prefit barrels now and they hammer like all his barrels.
xI'm running a br now, and Like it for accuracy, but it's not fast enough. Tac6, 75gr vmax 3200fps, like it for an ar platform for vc. I need another high fps in a 6mm, and a br doesn't get me there. Nothing beats a a high 3k (3800ish) impact on varmint poon tang. My 22-250's are good, 243win is good (currently set up as a prs build so no varmint cong work), but want to reuse as much of my existing components as possible. I have a ton of that 6.5srp brass, so might as well use it. I appreciate the advice though on huntslongrange, might have to look at a brx or the 243slr, or could be a smacktard and just buy another 6.5cm barrel set up for the 120ish gr bullets.Quote:
