Bailey, CO BCGC 2 Gun Match 09/15/19

2-Gun Rifle-Pistol Match and Free Clinic

This match is a modified version of a combat excellence in arms match, and is especially suited to new shooters using rack grade rifles and ball (mil surplus) ammunition. Semi-automatic rifles and pistols are preferred. Optical sights, iron sights, match rifles, or any safe rifle are allowed. It is not necessary to participate in the pistol phase if one chooses not to. With prior request, every effort will be made to provide arms and ammunition to those in need.


CLINIC: Optional clinic is open to all, participation in the match is not required to attend the clinic.


WHEN: Sunday September 15, 2019 0800hrs
LOCATION: Buffalo Creek Gun Club, Bailey, CO on the 600 yd range. See www.bcgc.com for directions to the range.


ENTRIES: Entries are limited based on range capacity. Pre-register at https://practiscore.com/clubs/buffalo_creek_gun_club


FEE: Match fee $5 members, $10 non-members


START: 0800-0900hrs free clinic at 600 yd line, will cover safety, scoring, pit procedures, range procedures, marksmanship fundamentals, and shooting positions. All are welcome to attend the clinic.


MATCH LIVE FIRE: Runs approximate 0930-1230hrs.


RAIN OR SHINE: Match will take place regardless of weather, if roads are passable. Check www.bcgc.com for updates.


AMMUNITION: No tracer or incendiary ammunition. Rifle ammo at least 65 rds (60 for match). Pistol ammo 20 rds. Ammunition must safely match the user?s firearms.


SIGHTERS: Each relay will have a 5 minute unlimited sighter period at the 600yd line before the start of record fire. Coaching will be allowed and standard ?come downs? for 500-300-200yd will be given if the shooter lacks ballistic data.


EQUIPMENT (Minimal): Hearing and eye protection are required. Mats or ground cloths are allowed at the 600yd line. MTU jackets or web gear is permitted, but not required. No heavy competition coats, shooting carts, shooting stools, tripods, spotting scopes, or other specialized competition shooting gear allowed.


Recommended Equipment: Small pack, binoculars, eye/ear protection, ammunition, 2-4 rifle magazines. 2-4 pistol magazines, magazine carrier, pistol belt, holster, ballistic data card (DOPE), food, water, sunscreen, pen/pencil and notebook. Shooters will be moving with rifle, pistol, and all gear from 600yd, 500yd, 300yd, 200yd, and into the target pits. Shooters are highly encouraged to have all gear on your person and organized so that they can move, and shoot without delay.


PARKING: During match vehicles may be parked near pits or behind the 600 yd line. Vehicles will not be moved between yard lines during live fire. Shooters will advance downrange on foot between stages.

I'm signed up, had a blast at this event last year. Just ordered up some more 77gr SMK BTHP ammo for the match.

I will make sure my bag is packed lighter than last year. I'll still bring all the AR tools and such but they'll stay in the car instead of my lugging them all over the range.

I did real good on the 600-300 yard prone portions last year, not so much on the standing. Been practicing standing shooting at the range with my 22, hopefully it'll translate.

Myself and a friend signed up, I’m getting pretty excited about it and I should probably zero my rifle. I shot the one in Byers with a red dot I thought was zeroed and I had a rough time until about the 300y line.

Having a good zero sure does help out.. :-)

I am going to up the bailey range on wednesday to work on my DOPE for the various distances.

Non-members need to sign up/pay for range access thru the online form (not for the match, just for private range use on weekdays). Cost was $25 for the day.

Yeah, I'm going to look into becoming a member, it's a bit of a drive for me, but it's my closest option if I want to shoot more than 100 yards.

Just need to figure out if I'll get there enough to make it worth the membership fee.

the match is only $10, no extra range fees, it's a good time.

Well, I had already signed up when I first posted.


I can sort what I need down here. Probably.

If I change my mind I'll be sure to withdrawal on practiscore.

Last year I went into the match with a rifle that had an "approximate" 100 yard zero. Ended up hitting 9/10 600 yards, 10/10 at 500 yards and 8/10 in 5 ring + 2/10 in 4 ring at 300 yards. Hopefully I won't find it out it was just beginners luck this year.

A shooting mat for the 600 yard line is good to have, and a quick-release bipod is useful to get the bipod off once we get done with the prone portion.

There is a decent length sight-in period at 600 yards that'll let you get zeroed pretty good, and then just use some standard come-downs to know how far to adjust down for 500yds, then down to 300yds, and down to 200 yards.

If you input the distance of your current zero, and tell it to chart every 100 yards out to 600 yards, you'll be able to see the approximate total adjustment to get from your current zero to a 600 yard zero. Then the sight-in period will get that zeroed out the rest of the way. And if you re-do the calculator with a 600 yard zero, and chart every 100 yards out to 500, you'll be able find how far to adjust down to get to 500, 300, 200. Those should be at least decent starting values.

Here are some "default" come ups/downs I was given. They are supposed to be enough to get you on paper at each distance.
100 to 200: 2 MOA
200 to 300: 3 MOA
300 to 500: 7 MOA
500 to 600: 4 MOA

Those are not too far off the values the calculator gave me

I'll probably pm a few folks about building a pack up & or what to not include above & beyond the list provided. Less anyone wants to volunteer the additional information here for everyone to see.

This will be my first match with this flavor & style unless it's something not dissimilar to the prs follies match that I shot last December @ Cheyenne Mountain.

See about borrowing a bipod.

Im not so fancy as all that as my optic is what it is.

Expect I'll learn quite a lot & I'm looking forward to it.

The last time I shot this match we started at 600 and advanced as a squad. We were able to verify zeros before the match started.

Think of this match as Eddies Standards on paper.

For the pistol portion it is IPSC-ish sized paper, 10-25 yards.

There will be an approx 5min sight in period at 600yds and we can usually get people on paper no problem. After that you can use the standard come downs and you should be in the ball park.. the target gets bigger as we get closer.. :-)

You can find the Match Course of Fire on the practicscore page(word document). Take a look at that and you will understand what is going on.. I have 13 people signed up so far and most are coming for the clinic so you won't be the only one with questions. .

Thats awesome. Always good to see so many people getting out to these matches and pushing themselves.

600 yards with an AR isnt easy. And shooting movers at 200 yards is something that most ranges cant support.

Despite continuous malfunctions I still had a great time.
However I spaced out signing up for the email list, is there a way to sign up through here or another website?

We had a record turn-out of 18 shooters for this match which is really great. The weather was awesome and the wind was "kind" to most. :-) I have uploaded all the scores and they can be found at this link below.

Yes we did. It was on 8/23 this year and we had a good turnout. Sorry I did not advertise much this year but the practiscore site had all the info on the match
