My boys first was a Savage MarkII F. A little larger than the youth version but was very manageable for them at 10 years old.
I like the savage rascal. About the size of a cricket but better.
Though you are looking more for a bolt gun, I would consider a ruger 10-22. The stocks are smaller on most models and they work well for kids.
Cricket is what all my kids learned with. They still take them out.
Rascal or cricket are my recommendations. My kids have the Savages.
Any of the old Stevens falling block or bolt action 22’s would work well too.
And when junior is done, daddy can put a csn on it.

CZ Scout. Nice little compact rifle, very accurate.
Depends how old the kid is. I bought my son a Henry lever 22 for his first birthday, at almost eight his arms are finally long enough. But I did pick up a cricket for 50$ that he has been using for almost 3 years. Nice thing about crickets is people let them go cheap
Savage rascal is like the cricket but better as mentioned for the real little ones.. older little ones 10/22
Henry mini bolt youth. Front and rear sights are different color which makes getting a proper sight picture very easy.

Or the CZ Scout as the mag can be switched later as well as the stock.

Ruger makes 5 round capacity 10/22 magazines. I case that is a concern.
