Anyone know what 4-engine propeller plane (bomber?) is circling over Boulder? They've made two passes overhead in the past half hour. It's that big rumbling sound of a slow moving plane; pretty impressive. Don't think there are any wildfires active.

Maybe they?re going to crop dust the front range with something to kill off the population to avoid spreading the covid.

Yeah, saw the bright orange markings on them and assumed they were fire bombers. The one I saw looked dark green to me though I think they might actually be a dark gray, (was hard to tell with the sun in my eyes) vs the ones out of the springs that tend to be a lighter gray color.

It is our annual Airborne Fire Fighting Certification with the Forest Service.
We used the drop zones north and west of Boulder today. Earlier this week we were dropping near Cheeseman Reservoir and the Hayman Fire burn scar.
This is the beast we put inside the back of the Hurk.
We can drop 3,000 gallons in about 4-5 seconds at max coverage.

Great photos, thanks Hoser. What was your role on the plane? Interesting the tanks and slurry mixer that goes on the plane. Apparently the discharge pipe can be seen on the left side of the plane behind the wing.

We weren't able to see the water drops yesterday but today I was up the mountain at Beaver Reservoir and watched multiple drops over the St. Vrain Divide. Here's a couple of shots:

Saw them cruising up and down the hogback from Chatfield area a few days ago. Very nice!
We did a repaint of a relatives home that was close to the Boulder Canyon fire several years ago. The house had lots of splatters of retardant all over from airdrops to contain the fire. It worked, the home was saved.
The stucco finish needed repainted (Big house) and that stuff really does a job on prefinished colored gutters/downspouts.
I'm calling Gov. Polis to suggest they add some KILZ paint primmer to the fire retardant when fire bombing homes in Boulder
Just saw a Hurk flying northbound about 30 minutes ago. From this angle was probably over I-25... and just now had one flying south overhead.

I live by the Jeffco airport (or whatever they are calling it now ) and have been doing some work really close to there. They fly so low I can practically smell the pilot. LOL. Can actually hear them when they are spooling up on the runways. It's been cool to watch this week.
