Is it just me, or is the site really slow right now? I'm not seeing the tremendous latency for this site on other sites even with the same browser.
Somewhat same. I'm seeing it elsewhere, depending, but having no impacts to my SSL VPN > VM connection, which is nice.
Seeing it here as well. Mobile and desktop both.
Too many bots this morning.
Assorted bad guys must be getting back to work.
I'm also getting a warning that I'm leaving the page when posting, and the vBulletin SW seems to be trying to double post as I get a 30 second posting warning.
Sites like this have a lot of moving parts and many things to look after. Sometimes basic maintenance gets put on the back burner for more important things like threatening the membership with banning if they dare mention the single most important event in any of our life times. At ease comrades.
I just figured with such a large number of people working from home these days that the entire internet was probably just clogged like a post-cinco de mayo toilet.
And it's deep too.

Something isn't right. I just submitted a single response to the going to space thread, and it double posted (eventually) with no intervention from me.
Wow. Something changed in the last 5 minutes. Much quicker.
Oh yeah? My phone sucks!
Admins working on it. Be off n on til they get done.
You may have noticed the latency has disappeared.
The latency was caused by a serious bot attack on our site. While there are mediations that can be made on a case-by-case basis at the server level, I don't have access to that capability.
To resolve the issue, for the time being, I have turned off Guest access to the site. This means that the only way to view the site is as a registered user who is logged onto the site. If you ever look at the site while not logged in, you won't be able to so that for the time being.
I plan to turn Guest access back on, but I want to give it a little time for the bots to think they can't get in any more.
Thank you!
Thanks !!!
Nice, thanks!
Is there a way to use an authenticator to limit bot activity using Guest. Some kind of challenge-response, like CAPTCHA?
(The site is wicked fast right now. I'd hate to give that up. ;-) )
I've been wondering the same thing myself, but I can't see that as an option within vBulletin. I know it's an option for creating accounts, but I don't see an option for just accessing the site.
Great work sir!
Thanks for building the wall.
Send the bill for your labor to the bots.
Apparently it's under Settings > Human Verification Manager
https://vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=315960
...and maybe this is an option?: Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit Usergroup (Unregistered) -> Require Human Verification on Configured Actions -> Yes
Great. Now we?re going to verify people are humans. That is going to eliminate some people here.
Much website joysomeness now. Quick like a bunny. Thanks!
Darn. Thanks for looking.
Thanks for all the hard work on this site, but what i dont get is this; "How is there 2646 guests?"
Attachment 81440
Yeah, I've been trying to sort that one out myself. The number actually went UP after I blocked Guest access permissions to the site.
I was kicking around that same question tonight. Do guests help with ad revenue? I don't think so. So, how do they improve the experience of this site?
Is there concern about not having more people coming across the site and injecting 'new blood' into it? [Sofa]
The site has always been "open" to encourage guests to join.
Are you going to take the time and effort to sign up for a site when you have no idea what goes on there?
Poor tracking of bots and visit length = each page spidered by a single bot (like google) often counts as a "unique" guest.
So if Google checks and indexes 2,000 pages over the last half hour, the site incorrectly reports 2,000 unique visitors.
Block Google. Problem solved. [Coffee]
