Finally...A "Common Sense" Red Flag Law

You read that right. A "common sense" Red Flag/ERPO law has just been passed in Oklahoma.

It's a tragedy that some number of gun owners support ERPO in the first place. Such a violation of multiple constitutional protections but it's socially popular so that makes it ok [facepalm] even people like Dave Koppel doesn't *really* want to challenge ours on all the faces, if at all....

Wtf.

Ha! I've actually been pleasantly surprised by the temps here. There's usually a breeze to moderate the heat a bit. Of course, Lewiston was hotter than hell in the summer, too. And the humidity here isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Of course, summer really isn't here yet. And it was 105? one day in Mar....so there's that.

Tulsa area is the greenbelt. Way more humid than where you are. I'm not sure what OKC is like. There was a literal swamp down the road from our property in Oklmulgee.

In my experience, the further east you go in OK, the more humidity you get. It comes up from the Gulf of Mexico and then sweeps east. It fuels tornado alley.

It's pretty crazy that you have to create a new state law to prevent the abrogation of US Constitutional law.

Nice, but it doesn?t mean much. All the governor needs to do is declare a state of emergency. You think they?ve been calling school/mass shootings an epidemic for years by coincidence? Or that Republicans had to specifically ban the CDC from studying gun control to fight the same epidemic? It?s likely without massive legislative reform nationwide restricting the power of the unelected Public Health Officials, one of these PHOs is going to try declaring guns a public health emergency on their own.

I think it means a tremendous amount. It further codifies in state law the right to due process and removes the ability (or makes it extremely difficult) for this nonsense to gain traction, much less get out of control. It means OK isn't going to have to worry about "red flag" laws for a long time. It would take a complete takeover of the legislature and governor's office by democrats. That's not likely to happen in the foreseeable future considering the legislature is now about 80% republican. I don't think your idea of the governor declaring a state of emergency is something I need to get too worked up over.

I'd venture to say you'd be ecstatic if somehow, by some miracle, this was passed in Colorado.

That would be great here and everywhere, but shouldn?t be necessary since we already have the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 14th Amendments to the US Constitution. Which leads to the tongue in cheek worthiness comment.

I might have to move to Oklahoma....serious lack of elk out there, though. Trout too. 🤔

There’s elk in OK but the draw for it is crazy as far as I can tell.

ETA: To not be totally off-topic: It sounds like at least a couple of folks in OK have their heads on straight. Preemptive legislation. Hopefully OK has something in their state constitution forbidding localities from enacting anything that goes against state laws.
