Massive series of fires up North here. Nobody cares though since its not near Denver.

I notice if there is a 1 acre fire near Denver the news is all over it. There will probably be nothing about this event. Hopefully nobody here lost anything. Lots of pasture lost. That will hurt a bunch of ranchers. Lots of wheat burned too. Hopefully the farmers were insured, but that isnt always the case. Lots of fencing and other materials lost.
We just came back from a massive series of fires. There were agencies from Briggsdale, Pawnee, New Raymer, Sterling, Logan County, Morgan County, Wiggins, state, Forest Service, out of state Kimball county, Pine Bluffs, etc. Probably more agencies than that. Asking for air drops too. Fires were all over from East of Grover to the outskirts of Sterling. From near the State line to the North to just north of Wiggins. The lightning strikes were constant. Fires just kept popping up. The super strong wind would change directions every few minutes in the complete opposite direction. All the while we are getting calls for downed powerlines across the north area.

We have been lucky so far. We have had several lightening strikes as well. We have also had people throwing out cigarettes or dragging a chain. The last two series of chain dragging started 4 fires each over 1/2-3/4 mile.

Y'all be safe up there and thanks for what you folks do. I got encircled in a pasture fire back when I was in High School and now have no desire to ever have to del with fire again (aside from a well managed camp fire).

We are good for now.

Fire is still zero percent contained. Winds are lower today and humidity is up and temps are down. Air assets on fire this morning just got pushed back by lightning squall that is passing through. Hopefully we can get the rain and keep the energy far enough away to allow crews to stay on their game.

Two hotshot crews on the fire along with local woodland crews. Engine assets staged for structure protection.

On another note....SAFER AT HOME ORDERS....WTF?!?!? I got those conflicting with my Evac orders....Now I am confused!

Yeah, gun stuff is heavy.

Screw that SAFER AT HOME BS, ignore those morons and their stupefying stupidity.

5 for me. No desire for an even half dozen. I'll take dealing with a hurricane or tornado any day over a wildfire.

My mother is a district ranger for the USFS down southern CO.

Due to covid the fire plan from the top right now is fast attack with a small group that is isolated from the rest of the department if they can and if it is safe to do so.

This was about two miles from my house as the crow flies...way too close for comfort. Small fire but it could have gotten outa hand real damn quick.

Glad it all worked out!!! I did the pre-evac on alert thing back in 2012 and 2013; it's definitely not fun packing up everything and moving it off-site (along with lots of stress).
