LETS REMEMBER: It was the Spaniards, not Italians who commissioned Columbus. So if you're triggered, Protest at the Spanish Consulate.
HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY TO YOU![Beer]
No longer a state holiday.
Replaced by Cabrini day one week earlier.
It's called Indigenous Peoples' Day now apparently.
But what do I know? I'm just a straight, conservative racist, I guess. That's what they tell me anyway
Attachment 83378I to say Happy Columbus Day!
Come on, Come on,
Let's get it right:
It is Cabrini Day!
From 2020, Colorado passed legislation to replace Columbus Day as a state holiday with Cabrini Day. In March 2020, Gov. Jared Polis signed into law House Bill 1031, which renames the holiday.
The first Monday in October will honor Frances Xavier Cabrini, who created 67 schools, hospitals, and orphanages in the United States and South and Central America throughout her lifetime.
Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill in March making the first Monday in October Cabrini Day, the result of three decades of attempts to repeal Columbus Day.
Cabrini Day is the first paid state holiday in honor of a woman in the United States.
Columbus Day is still a federal holiday, though in recent years, states like New Mexico, Vermont and Maine have officially replaced it with Indigenous Peoples Day, while others like North Carolina, South Dakota and Oregon have recognized it with special events like parades.

Dear Columbus protestors.
Stop being anti immigrants and stop harassing Spaniards and Italians. They are same immigrants as person who immigrated from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, etc.
Don't forget the English (Mayflower 1620), or the Irish, or the Scots, or anyone else.
Even the Clovis displaced others 13,000 years ago.
OH BOY, we are havin' fun now.
Damn Pollo. Damn Magellen. Damn Leon. Finally Damn DORA THE EXPLORER!
Smettero' di chiamarlo Columbus Day quando gli Indiani se ne torneranno in Siberia attraverso lo stretto di Bering!
There, I said it!
אני אשתדל בקונגרס לשנות אותו ליום עברי!
Why cant we remember and honor what this guy did over 500 yrs ago, sailing into the unknown and (i know this will anger some people) expand human civilization.
What he did was a true struggle, read about it. ln the long run, you (we) are probably better off because this lunatic voyage he proposed was accepted and financed by the Spanish Monarch.
Thanks Mr. Columbus!
I always wondered why those opposed to Columbus Day never tried to stop the parade NYC used to have (prior to this year at least)? Hmm, maybe that wouldn't have worked out so well for them? [LOL]
I think we had a same topic last year.
I don't think they liked explorers coming. I am fairly certain they liked some areas, but I think plague sealed the deal.
Imagine we found new civilization in Antarctica underground and they brought flying saucers (or some advanced aircraft) into our country.
They brought many good stuff, but they brought some disease that has 10%+ death rate upon rapid infections.
I would say NO THANKS to super hyper sonic mach 80 aircraft that can go to US to India in 30 minutes (just an examle) that fuels on sea water, and rather not take a chance of getting new type of disease with high death rate.
I know it was not intentional, but they probably saw it as a diablo. [Evil]

Wait a minute, Spaniards created Mexico and chimichangas.
I am telling ya.
Spaniards do not receive negatives as much as British empire, Dutch, Prussia, or even aus-hung emp gets.
They are like Mongols back in 11th cen. I rarely see people saying bad shit about Mongolian empire, but they invaded or occupy the most out of all.
So the morons in Portland pull down statues of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt on "Indigenous Peoples Day of Rage"? WTF? Idiots should read some actual history, not the fake crap put out by Howard Zinn and his comrades.

Do not try this at home!!
OK. I get tarred & feathered, and run out of town on a rail, but...
Curiosity got the better of me... Is this a random drawing, or is it an illustration from something? Whats the flag or patch on the farmer's satchel? Why does the t&f'd guy have a "Cowboys and Aliens" type bracelet on (I haven't seen the movie, just the trailers)?
Or am I simply reading too much into this?
Close, but not quite. That looks to be an image someone drew based on the video game Fallout. The logo on his satchel is the logo of the New California Republic (NCR). It's a two-headed bear, not single-headed (premise of Fallout is global nuclear war happened, hence the mutation). Also, the one on the rail has a PipBoy on his arm, indicating either that's the player character, or another vault dweller.
I've only played since Fallout 3, so I don't know the context of the image, maybe in 1 or 2 the PC gets kicked out of town? Dunno.
(Pre-submit edit: Per the artist's DeviantArt page:
"Professional ass kicker GEORGE BRAWLER cheated and got drunk at the wrong saloon.
But seriously, tarring and feathering should've been present in Fallout New Vegas. And horses, too. Or anything that does not require me running for miles in a desert."

Well, Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini also called Mother Cabrini, was an Italian-American Roman Catholic nun.
She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a Catholic religious institute that was a major support to her fellow Italian immigrants to the United States.
She was the first U.S. citizen to be canonized as a Saint by the Roman Catholic Church, on July 7, 1946.
The holiday still honors those of Italian heritage.
