Apparently our dishwasher decided to give up the ghost while I was out of town. Now that I am back, finally, it's time to get it replaced.
Anyone have a recommendation on a brand to buy? Or a brand to avoid?
What about a recommended dealer?
If I can direct this business to a board member, I would certainly like to.
Interested to follow. Always wanted a dishwasher that didn't require me to fully wash the dishes before I load them.
I have a top line LG but if I was buying now I think I'd go Bosch.
It does a great job but had some initial issues.

A few years ago, I sprung for a Bosch dishwasher and love it. It was not cheap, but it's night and day compared to the builder-grade GE dishwashers I was used to. A "full" + "sanitize" cycle can take a while, and sometimes plastic containers, etc. will come out a bit wet and not fully dry. But again, I think that's a pretty common thing from what I've heard, nothing specific to Bosch. Definitely glad I spent the extra cash and would do it again.
I'll second the Bosch recommendation. Fantastic DW. We had an 800 series and it was fantastic...aside from the price.
I now have a high end Kitchenaid DW in my place. It's even better, and pricier, than the Bosch.
Avoid LG and Samsung. They have the worst history with board failures. Bosch is good, and I never had any problems with my Whirlpool appliances.

Bosch is great. Only "complaint" I've ever heard about them is that you can't hear them running, so they sometimes get opened in the middle of the cycle. Very quiet dishwashers.
Our dishwasher sounds like a whispering Cylon & does an amazing job. Its a Kenmore. So much quieter than our previous & had better ratings at the time....
We had a Bosch before & it required everything to be prewashed. Still didn't do a very good job & It broke often too including the control board & several organizing bits. Maybe we had a dud.

Roll eyes..... Asian family here, we use our dishwasher once a year (Like today) on days where we have a ton of people over. Most of the time we make the kids do the dishes and wash everything by hand. And the dishwasher is used as another cabinet for storage (ours is for Tupperware actually).
After the KitchenAid tried to set the house on fire we replaced it with a Bosh.
Nice washer, quiet and powerful. Only complaint I have is the door is friction locked and started feeling loose when I grip and rip the door open.
It did fail to wash a month ago, basically loud and no water. Turned out to be the water solenoid on the front. Local parts store had it for $45. Cheaper online but longer wait. Kid at the counter said that is typically the only thing that breaks on these machines.

We redid our whole kitchen in whirlpool appliances. Wife wanted the black color so everything matches.
We bought an Asko last year for our remodel and chose it over Bosch and because it had the features we wanted yet was under the price of a Miele we where looking at. What’s your budget?
We went with Bosch a couple of years ago to replace the original GE that the builder used.
At the time we looked at the selection of all dishwashers at Sear's and it was about the only one they were recommending.
Quiet was a priority. It is.
Can't comment on not pre-washing dishes, since we scrub 'em up real well before they go in the dishwasher.
I would buy another Bosch.
I've always thought that if I was still a bachelor, I'd go for one of those two drawer dishwashers.
In all seriousness I'd literally never put anything away - I'd live out of the clean drawer and put the dirty dishes in the dirty drawer.
When the dirty drawer's full, run it and now it's the clean drawer. I'd save tons of wasted time putting away clean dishes.

LG is the anti-christ. Stay away.
I have another vote for Bosch. If you are going for quiet pay attention to dB. Even a 3dB difference can make a big difference.
Choosing a dishwasher is indeed a complicated process.
First you have to find one that you find attractive that's willing to go out with you, then you have to get to know her (making sure you're on the same page about important values and kids and all that). Then you have to test her sandwich making ability in addition to how good a dishwasher she is (I mean if she leaves spots on the glasses but makes an awesome po-boy, that's much better than someone with perfect dishwashing capabilities that can only make PB&J or Bologna on white bread).
And of course you have to look out for the crazy ones.
But keep looking, there's a dishwasher out there for everyone :)
It's funny you say this as I've been discussing a new refrigerator this week and because of the many problems/poor quality of both LG & Samsung I've decided I'll likely go with a Whirlpool. Sure, I'm talking refrigerators and not dishwashers, but the problems with LG and Samsung seem to carry over through all of their appliances. Because of this thread, I'll at least give Bosch a look and check out their reviews.Quote:

There is a science behind not rinsing off your dishes, the soap needs food substance to properly activate.
Get a large dog for prewash and buy a simple kitchen aid. They are really quite so the dog rests easy.

That said, I live in a Kenmore and GE house that are the loudest and most useless cleaners ever made.
Besides LG, I'd love to find a good and quiet dishwasher.
Dogs are the best cleaners but not right now.

Our range had to have the oven (plastic) inner dial control replaced at less than one year.
The DW also had a defective upper water tube feed. The rubber on the bottom came apart within two years. $168 part that was covered.
The MW and Fridge have been good but I did fight with LG over the door alignment on the fridge. Terrible fit and finish. DW tub was a little wonky too and even the range a little off. These were about $10K (retail) for the set, so not cheap, but not stupid either. Dual fuel range and Fridge were the two big ticket but even the DW was over $1K.
Kinda looks like a Bosch Series 800 is in our near future...
The series 500 would be just fine, but it isn't available until April 2021...
We have had 3 whirlpools in a row - all of them excellent. Very quiet - which Bosch is as well.

Our GE has been bad ass for about 8 years now. It's not super quiet but we usually run it in the middle of the night when we're sleeping anyway.
Anybody who is in the market for a dishwasher - are you finding them in stock? I haven’t shopped myself but had heard that some home appliances like dishwashers are back ordered for months. Making me consider replacing current my 8 year old one.
Lots of stuff is long lead time right now, from what I am finding.
I've found a few things that can be delivered within 1-2 weeks, but even the number available for that has dropped pretty dramatically from pre-Black Friday to now.
