You'll pay through the air for BreezeAir, but I've never met someone who owns one that wasn't very happy with them. Only downside I've heard of is that they aren't user serviceable I guess when it comes to changing the pads.

I was thinking of a mastercool downdraft but Idk how available anything is right now so I might not have many choices. Definitely need someone to install it - I don't have it in me to deal with chores like this anymore.
Is your current one up on the roof?
Checkout Hercules HVAC supply on west Evans. They might recommend an installer too.

It cooled a 2500sqft house just running on low, we never had to run it on high.
The thick celldex evaporative pads are very efficient.
The installer said we would have to replace the celldex pads about every 5 to 7 years
but we will get probably get 12 years out of them.
A friend recently installed Master Cool but I have not spoken to them since they installed it.
It also has the celldex type evaporative pads but the enclosure is metal.

Don't use the cooler company here in Denver. I'm not thrilled with promises made and not kept.. the install is ok. Had them also winterize it and they dismantled most every part of it so a normal homeowner wouldn't be able to put things back together without a service call.
Find another installer.

I recommend Breezeair for sure. I replaced old metal tub units with two Breezeair in our GJ/Palisade home ten years ago. It was the best investment we made there. I had the pads replaced on one unit in 2019. The other needs replacing now but I'll wait until next year, and I'll do it myself. It's pretty easy and I'll save half the cost, about $260.
When you figure the cost of replacing pads in the metal tub coolers once or twice a year, the celldex pads are cheaper and require far less maintenance.
I installed the original coolers on our house. They were noisy and the pads required regular adjustment to keep them working efficiently. I kinda miss the new aspen pad aroma but I don't miss the trips up on the roof to wash out the cooler and adjust the pads. With the Breezeair I save 12-15 trips up and down the roof every year. I do my own drain down in the fall, remove the intake solenoid and wash it out. I once had a drain valve fail but service was reasonable.
The Breezeair works so much better in every way. The best cooling I could get with the old units was a 12-16 degree differential. I can get 20-30 degree differential with the Breezeair depending on the humidity. A couple weeks ago when temps were around 84, I dropped the bedroom temp to 61. The mineral sensor in the Breezeair automatically changes the water as needed, but I often drain it every evening. Replacing warm water with cold water helps. The higher unit cost is softened a bit by the $600 Xcel Energy rebate.

This is all true. My cheapy window unit is keeping my house at 74 right now, and it's 101 outside. I measured 132 on the plastic thermometer facing the sun in my garden just now as well. That's a pretty good delta, but since it's a window unit, it's not relevant or worth a mention in this thread. Also my house is small.Quote:

I got up on the roof at about 630 this morning and checked. The flex seal looked like a perfectly fitted rubber insert. Nice and thick, fully cured along the bottom and up above the water line. It was gorgeous, not a single seam visible. Filled it up with water and watched it for an hour, not a single drip. Ran it for a while, no detectable smell. Had to turn it off when it got so hot that it was just heating the house. But got up again a little while ago and same thing, perfectly sealed, so turned it on again for the night.
After thinking about it for a bit, it kind of made me a little mad. Seems to me that this sort of coating should be standard on the metal ones when it's installed, unless I'm missing something about it's long term durability.
I don't know how humid it is at your place, but it has been pretty humid here the past few days and water coolers need low humidity to work the best.Quote:

My new breezeair works quite well. Been up & running for five hours. Not really that coveted like a new car smell though.
Ended up with the Cooler Co & subcontractor install. Went as well as expected given comments here & elsewhere. I was very thorough on the walk through after & they were quick to solve most of the issues. Bit of plaster on one of my ottomans & the buffet. Wish folk would spend more time cleaning up, inside & out too. Already mailed my warranty card. See how it goes from here. Thanks.
