It's a good thing my paper 4 has been in flight for just over a month. :(
I'm in the same boat, I'm at 2 months.
And pulling the paper forms to switch to eform, atf said they will add 1 year to the wait time.
I'm sure it will be overloaded for a while anyway, but after it cools down, could be very bad for my wallet
Omg [ROFL1]
They are early for an 01 April announcement like this.
Just cause it is online doesnt mean it will go faster......................... They just used 50 ATF peeps to review the comments left for the proposed ghost gun rule changes...... all 300,000+ of them. Probably the same ATF people that was supposed to work on all our Form 4 paperwork.
When it goes to gov process I have no faith to get excited about "speed" of process.
LOVE this Comment in bold below;
- If your application has already been mailed to the ATF, then stay the course. ATF has stated that any withdrawals of pending paper applications will result in a one-year delay.
Just dropped a Form 1 today for a suppressor. They have been coming back inside of a month. I've got a Sandman Ti 30-cal in NFA jail right now. Been sitting there for 6-months so far. Filed as an individual so I'm curious to see if it comes back any faster. I don't have my hopes up.
I am hoping that with eFile Form 4s now, the amount of paper Form 4 submittals will diminish rapidly over the next 6 months and the eFile will have less time with agents so they can concentrate on getting the stack of Form 4 cycled through faster than normal. ............what is normal for them, it fluctuated so rapidly over the last couple years, but in the last couple years the sales of silencers has increased a lot.
I'd like to hope so too. I would be curious to know exactly how many ATF agents are assigned to the NFA division who specifically review and approve/deny Form 1 and Form 4 forms. I feel like it's where agents who are a couple years away from retirement go and could care less about getting shit done. I can't seriously think it's that hard to review NFA paperwork.
My understanding is the main reason they get sent to the FBI is the fingerprint check. It takes a person to handle a fingerprint check that is sent via a card. The new e-file uses digitised fingerprints so that may mean the ATF examiners would be able to the background checks. In theory that would make it so a human wouldn't have to touch the whole process most of the time.
On the other hand I just got an e-filed Form 1 back in 19 days. That kinda kills that exquse.
.......to add to that I was reading an article where they talked with a retired FBI person who did those checks. It is on the very very veeeeery bottom list of things the FBI deams important and tends to go on long delays. The majority of the time waiting for your form 4 to come back approved is because of the background check with the FBI.
I still do not understand the how there will be a difference with Form 1 and Form 4 (3-4 months) efiling. the only difference is a manufacturer has created the serial # and registered with ATF. You would think it would be easier.
I was joking with my cousin, i have 3 paper Form 4's submitted, the last was end of Nov (which urks me if I would have known) My free SilencerCo Octane should be here in the next couple months I will eFile that one. If I get approval for that before I get my approval for my can I submitted in Sept I am going to be super annoyed.
:)
I read somewhere, I think either the ATF or Silencer Shop, that by the end of next year the e-file Form 4 times are expected to come down to match the current e-file Form 1 times.
The ATF also said that the e-file system would be transitioned and on line Tuesday morning not Thursday morning. I hope that isn't an omen.
Appears to be up
FILE, FILE, FILE!
This is a mini nightmare already............................
So mid November I bought a SilencerCO Hybrid 46 through Silencer Shop to take advantage of the BOGO deal. I at the time did the Form4 Paper as I thought, since I didnt hear about the new eFile form4 hitting in mid December.
I have not heard anything from Silencer Shop and they usually will update you on the process, specifically ATF cashing my 200 tax. I logged on and low and behold Silencer Shop apparently held off on submitting the paper Form 4 and changed me to eFile. That is cool as heck, except....................I had no clue as they did not tell me.
Make matters worse the status said FAILED to certify. So emailed them Friday 1/7/2022 to ask (not heard back yet) but read through the instructions again and turns out I have to an ATF eFile account. Have one but been a year, apparently I have to go update it and reset my password............................. now I guess I have to certify in person with my Dealer that the CAN will be shipped to once approved, not Silencer Shop. I talked to my dealer on the phone and they are having a whole bunch of trouble getting the certifying to work and are waiting on ATF to resolve their account on their end. So my paperwork fails to certify with ATF eForms in the meantime. Sigh..................
I guess with something new there is ALL the bugs in the system up front. As long as I get approval in 90 days that would make up for it. [Beer]
From this whole debacle, I've heard terrible things from silencershop customers. On the other hand, I've heard great things from capitol armory customers.
I'm holding off to see what kind of a circuis this ends up being, but I'm leaning towards going with CA when I do buy. Plus they have a location in CO and can ship directly to your door when the can is approved
I bought my turbo CAN from Capitol armory at the time they offered to do the Form 4 and send directly to me. I thought that was weird and never heard of that but they advertise it. I was expecting 9-10 months wait and had them ship to my local gun range so I can shoot with it while I wait.
The big issue is right now my eFile Form 4 paperwork is on hold until I can certify with my local dealer through the online eFile system which they are having issues linking my account to get certified. Anyone gone through the certify in person yet with the eFile system Form 4?
Read this morning on Reddit that form 4's on efile are getting approved.
It looks like the SilencerShop efile system for form 4s is 100% good to go.
Well, it is up to say the least,
Twice my efile showed error "failed to upload." I emailed Silencer shop and they responded with something about learning how many in a batch they can upload at one time to the eFile system and that I should see the email to certify in person (for individuals, not trusts) with my local dealer by 1/15. Way past that now.............
The category has been in "ready to certify" for the last 2 weeks. looking around Reddit (finding people in the same boat) a very useful place to look BTW. That my stage is in orange, I have to wait until ATF accepts, then it will turn green and I will get the notification to certify.
There needs to be a simple flow chart created, even Silencer Shops' videos and instructions are not very "detailed." [Beer]
If the ATF system is busy, it can take a while.
I pushed a bunch through last night while everyone was driving home from work or at the bar with friends.
A trust?
The more I read the more I am confused about the orange or green categories and when the local dealer should get notice. I emailed Silencer Shop again. (will get an in answer in 3 days.)
I caught a thread of people "pissed off with Capitol Armory (CA)." Apparently prior to efile CA was touting how once approved they can send your CAN directly to your house, people loved that. With eFile people where saying now even faster, YEAH!
Apparently the rule is that for individual's you have to certify in "person" which meant this would not work. So CA is apologizing to those individual filers that they can either re-submit as a Trust or go to paper form 4, or drive to CA and certify in person. Yikes!
I just read about the CA mess last night, lol, gonna be a lot of denials. Sounds like SS got their problems sorted out though.
Oh well, at this point I'll just continue filing with my LGS and skipping all the online crap
Just got certified through Silencer Shop yesterday. Got the pending email email almost immediately. Hopefully with all the issues with CA, I will be approved much sooner.
Personally, I'm really hoping they clear the backlog of existing paper forms before they move any resources onto eFile.
...but that would be the fair thing to do, and it's the government, so I'm sure that won't happen.
O2
Did anyone just see the email from the ATF?
Yes, very serious email. :)
.................and Silencer shop put up another video about processing, more specific about for those filing as Individuals when they would need to certify with the local dealer. So nice to know, ...... now. Just waiting now for my email notification from Silencer Shop.................... at 3 weeks later from when they said would happen.
............patience I guess, nothing new with the NFA process. [Coffee]
SO have not heard a PEEP from silencer shop since mid-January, emailed them last Thursday as to; "what the heck?" been in orange ready to certify status this entire time (since beginning of Jan). They never responded to my email but Monday got my email saying "Ready to certify with dealer" to call and schedule.
I have an appointment Friday, my dealer says they have had a heck of time with Silencer Shop's software and how they have to do it. Sucks to be individual, a trust I can do online. :(
ATF: "Don't give out your userid/password."
Also ATF: Happy Valentine's Day!
(OK, so anyone that did that to cause us to all get that stern letter needs to be kicked in the taint.)
