What to buy next?

Ok.. I just got done looking at the why do you have the guns you have thread and decided I should start another fun thread. What gun/guns do you want to acquire next?

I'll start:

1. Some type of 9mm, probably a Glock, for my wife

2. A complete upper in .204 Ruger or .20 Tactical for bustin' prairie dogs

3. Marlin 1895 Cowboy in .45-70, well, because I like lever actions.

4. Ruger GP-100, 6" barrel, full shroud, stainless. Because I miss the one I sold like a piece of my soul.

Thats a good start. There will be more. How about it guys, whats next for you?

Think I already answered this in the other thread but...

1. Some sort of revolver in .357

2. Noveske N4 SST 12 inch with Switchblock to fullfill my EBR desires.

3. Maybe either a Tac-ops or AI .338 Lapua

4. Would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to get a Full auto Thompson, M16, or HK MP5


After that, can't ask for much more... just tons of ammo and range time.



EDIT: Greenscout, I got my wife the Glock 26 (9mm Baby glock) and she absolutely LOVES it.

I bought a CZ 75B with the intention of threading the barrel for a SWR Trident 9, and also picking up a threaded Kadet kit. I bought an 870 with a pistol grip with the intention converting it to SBS. I'm looking to put a stock on it now though, still will do the SBS as well. If I had a bunch more money, I'd look at doing an intregal silencer on some cheap 12 ga pump. I'd likely have to make that one myself though.

Yeah, you just have to put the silencer tube over the entire barrel and then drill holes down the barrel to bleed off the gasses. The holes serve to bleed off gasses both for the sound reduction and to slow the shot to subsonic speeds before it exits the barrel.

There are a few guys that have one, but don't expect it to sound like a mouse fart like on No Country For Old Men or something. There are some youtube videos of a guy in England with a few as well.

Not to hijack my own thread, but I would really like to acquire a couple of suppressors as well. Definately one for a .22lr and one for a .22 Hornet project I have planned. I will abide by ALL laws governing NFA items of course...

The supressed shotgun has me intrigued....

I know... I've been coveting that thing since Todd and I ended up at Lizards when the PPPS match got canx and we didn't know it.

I'm really looking hard at getting either a 308 or 260 in a basic long range config when I can afford one. I have a 300 that works well for this, but want something cheaper to drop the hammer on to practice with. Leaning toward the 260.

Naw ... what you REALLY need is an Enfield in .308. Yeah, that's what you need (the wife will love it)

I'd love to pick up a long range 338.

Also planning for an SBR (AR variety), couple of suppressors (.22, 5.56), M1 Garand, and a M1A, and an AK of some sort.

The guy that got the Tromix suppressed Siaga is on Silencertalk. If you do a Google image search for "suppressed shotgun" it comes up in one of the thumb nails, but the image itself has been taken down.

This stuff is honestly a pipe dream for me. I just don't currently have the funds available to get what I want, so I tend to try and not talk about it too much lest I become that guy who always talks about what he's going to get, but never does it. There are a bunch of people on here who have NFA stuff, but for some reason, they hardly ever talk about it. NFA stuff still seems kind of taboo on this site to me. I don't really understand why though.

Wow, that thing must be heavy. I've tried to do teh whole silencer research thing but 1.) I don't want to (can't justify) spending hte $30 to read the reviews; and 2.) actually do not know anyone who actually has a suppressor for me to get "hands on" experience with.

I've seen people claim too, etc. But never see them at ranges/shoots, or anything.

Unfortunately, I am one of those "one day" people, lol.

One day I'll be out of debt, own my own home/acreage, own a FA MG, several suppressors, and have a reliable car... one day.

You can get a lot of similar information on Silencertalk.com. Don't have to pay to go there. It is a forum just like this, except for it's full of rich guys that have more value in MG's than I've probably made in my entire life. (Well, maybe not that much, a few of them do I'm sure though).

Hoser, hello Sir. PD match? Is that pistol division or peublo or....?

I would love to actually come to a match, but to be plain honest, I'm a scardy-cat. Ego aside, I think I'm a halfway decent shot. Nothing special but I can handle my own. However, these talks about 5 shot groups in 3 seconds measuring less than an inch (just pulling figures out of the air) and competing seems nerve wracking for just a guy who benchrests and punches paper. I've always wanted to do like a tactical obstacle course live fire type thing. I just don't have vests, million mags, etc. The sheer amount of knowledge that seems to eminate from the topics started on this forum (along with the commardary) can be quite intimidating to the "uninitiated". Once again, "one of these days" I might make it out to one. Money and time are the biggest protagonists right now though besides my hesitancy.

On the inet I'm fine, but in real life I'm almost an introvert. Hard for me to go places where I do not know someone. Kind of weird for a musician huh? Of course, how many musicians are not weird? HAHA.

I am going to break down and finally buy:

1. Mosin Nagant 91/30 rifle that I have wanted for a while.

2. M1 rifle from the CMP next time I am in Atlanta.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone put down groups like you are talking about.

You are confusing people showing pictures of rifle groups and assuming that's what is on the other end of the camera when watching a Todd Jerret video. I'd say very few people can do that. When I go to a match, I'm ecstatic to even hit all the targets.

I'm not taking anything away from these guys that live at matches, but unless you are doing a bullseye match, no one measures how far apart your groups are, just if you hit the target or not.

Dude, the PD match is the Prairie Dog/sniper challenge. I went to the last two matches. I had a blast! Got my ass handed to me both times, but still had fun. It is a very informal competition. The .308 you mentioned would work pretty well. http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6763

Here's the rub about shooting competitively regardless of the type of shooting; unless you've been around it, you have no idea how to gauge just how good a good shooter is. Weather your show up to shoot or you show up to watch, regardless of the type of shooting competition, you are going to see some guys shooting that will blow your mind. Then you say to yourself, "there's no way I can do that." The problem is the high level shooting is taken out of context. It's obvious you can't do that high level shooting when you start. I've never seen a newbie that could.

Newbies come out to shooting competitions for various reasons. The ones that stay are the ones that want to get better regardless of where they started in the depths of suckatude.

SA friday is exactly right. I shot Running Game Target at a very high level of competition in the late 80's and early 90's. It is a ten metre air rifle event. Anyway, when I started, I couldn't even hit the target consistantly. I was away from competative shooting for many years except for an occasional smallbore silhouette match or round of trap with my dad. I'd really been looking for something new to try. I enjoyed the PD match a lot and I will continue to compete.

I really sucked the first time and the second time wasn't much better. There was some improvement however. My goal in any competition is just to improve my own performance. I compete only with myself. The only objective is to achieve my personal best performance. If you genuinely focus on that, one day you will surprise yourself with how well you can shoot.

well last purchase was a pistol (Steyr M40-A1) so next will be a rifle (Springfield M1A)

Returning to the original subject-

I'd like -

A .30-40 Krag, correct military configuration. Don't really care which model.

A trapdoor Springfield, once again correct military configuration. Same model preference.

Realistic:

1. Remington 700 LM 338 Lapua Mag
2. Mossberg 930 SPX
3. Some 1911
4. Beretta 391 12GA 28"
5. Glock Compensated (22 or 23).
6. Glock 19 RTF.


When my investment goes up 10,000x (1,000,000%):

1. FN SCAR
2. Sako TRG-42
3. AI 338 AWSM
4. Some nice 1911 (EdBrown or Wilson ).
5. H&K PSG-1 (I fell in love with that rifle, when Crossroads back around 1997 had it on display).

That bad boy is about as stock as Jeff Gordon's racing stock car. That there is the top of the heap for long range bolt action rifles. You can get similar, but not better.

It's funny that Greenscout meantioned the Sig SG 556. I've been drooling over the Sig556 line for a while and really want to get one. I came into this thread today with the intent of posting that this is the gun I'd love to get next, in one of the many variations...exact variation desired has nont yet been decided).

My wife commented on Christmas Eve that I wasn't particularly happy. My best friend was there too. She asked what would make me happy so I threw out that getting this new gun that I'd been looking at for anywhere from $1500 - $2000 would make me happy. she told me that if THAT would make me happy, just get it.

Somehow, I think that if I were to "just get it", she'd then be the unhappy one and I'd have to live with that, so.... No new gun for me right now.

But dang, I think that's a sweet gun.

With my wife, its almost like shes daring me. You know, when she says, fine, just do whatever you want.... The first time you hear this, you think; Cool! Shes OK with this! So, you go and do or buy what ever it was you wanted. Strangely, when you get home, you're facing an icy environment...

I think of it like this: It is a risk/benefit analysis....

The risk, beyond the cash investment, is just how pissed is she going to be and for how long.. I find myself doing this mental exercise frequently...[Tooth]

I would like to finish my 1911 in 38 super I started.

Garand in .308 would be nice

A1 IDF clone may get there sooner.

The time to shoot more often would be nice.

Mine just says no. I bypass this and get myself into trouble by utilizing the rationale that it's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission. In fact, I did that one time because I wanted a metal detector, and (I kid you not) she actually said, as she was irritated with me, that she'd have rather I bought a gun! (So next time, I did!)
