The annual Sturgis drunkfest is happening the weekend.
Looking at the webcams, it is raining. Since pirates can't get wet, I am guessing the bars are packed.
My buddy brought up an interesting point.
How many Bug Light kegs were sold up there last year, versus this year?
Probably the same. The more entreprising bar owners probably bought a ton of Bud Light kegs at a deep discount and then stuck Busch Light stickers on them and charged a premium.Quote:

It's been a looong time since I went to Sturgis. Last time was 30 years ago lol. It was fun but that was my 8th time, I was a lot younger and did a lot of stupid things though nothing with any consequences lol.
i have an old school friend who is going this year for #42 year !!!!
I went once back in my single days. Rode a 1977 Harley XLCH hardtail up and back.
That was not exactly a pleasurable ride either way.
Had fun up there.
Never had a desire to go again.
I went for the 75th anniversary. Kind of a been there, done that kind of a thing and likely won?t go again unless I?m still alive and riding when the 100th anniversary rolls around.Quote:

Saw a lot Harleys on trailers headed in that direction on Friday. A few riders, a LOT of trailer queens.
Met 3 riders next to my garage in Castle Rock yesterday.
They trailered their bikes from San Antonio and were riding to Sturgis from Castle Rock.
That probably gives them the scenic ride without the Texas landscape.
I was up that way about ten years ago for work. Arrived in late May. left two weeks after the Sturgis event. The company put me up in Spearfish. The summer began mellow enough but the volume of motorcycle traffic steadily increased while I was there. Two weeks before the motorcycle rally, Hell's Angels MC held a conference in the area. Red and white (as well as blue) all over. Most of the hotel rooms had been booked a year in advance and as lodging ran out the demographic changed. Still crazy. Safety briefings were very interesting.
Didn't do that much drinking. Didn't buy Bud Light just because.... Definitely stayed off the roads unless work called.

Eh, It's a spectacle that every motorcycle rider should see once, but that's pretty much it. Same for Daytona. Fun to do once, then you can check it off the list.
Sturgis is similar to Las Vegas in the sense that everything there is carefully calculated to extract as much money as possible from the visiting bikers.
Our motorcycle club rode to the Black Hills last year in September, it was awesome. No crowds, no excessive heat and you could really enjoy the curvy roads when there weren't 500,000 poorly-ridden Harleys clogging them up.
Went to Isle of Man twice when stationed in Germany. I have always thought motorcycles were meant to be ridden.
I've seen pictures of a Bud concession with no customers.
But that's easy enough to stage - for someone there, is it true?
