Adios Del Taco

Del Taco has closed its restaurants in Colorado.
The phone numbers are out of service and online ordering has been shut down for the chain locations in the state as of Thursday morning. Del Taco operated 19 locations in Colorado.
Last June I was hired to do mold testing in 9 locations in Denver and the Springs. One guy owned all of them (and I think most of the 19) and was selling. The buyers were concerned about mold since many of the buildings had water issues- mostly roof leaks.
Makes me curious as to what happened. Did the sale fall through and the original guy bailed or did the new owners screw up? I'll likely never know...
And don't really care since every time I have eaten there I was disappointed.

I think that’s the general consensus and why they’re gone… nobody really ever goes more than once as far as I’m aware. I know I’ve only ever gone to del taco exactly once, and it was trash.

Huh, I ate at a Del Taco yesterday, 1000 times better than anything you get at Taco Bell not that that's saying much. If this is true that's a bummer.

The fish taco's were a nice change of pace.
Based on other news; taco bell sales are up.
Taco Star might be the closest take on Del Taco in terms of quality of food. That could be a good thing or...

Wahoo's is the place for fish tacos.

Don't recall seeing a DT in 25yrs of living in CO. [2cents]

Del Taco was owned by a company that went bankrupt after losing financial support. There are some hefty outstanding bills left unpaid.
The one in Grand Junction is owned by a different franchisee that's still open, if you've got a powerful hankering...

Bring back Del Taco and bring back Casa Bonita's old food! I'm weird but I liked them. The new Casa Bonita food is junk. I'll never go back! :)

Only thing I liked at Del Taco was the crinkle cut fries, go figure?

The first time I drove by one my Army brain asked "Why is that fast food place called Delta Company"?
-
Del Taco is owned by Jack in the box.

I went to the one on County Line for chicken soft taco night last Thursday--it was just as good as it was before--and jammed up. They have kiosk ordering now.

As far as I can tell, here is what happened.
The guy I did the mold testing for in his locations was behind in franchise payments to the tune of $125k. There was a sale in the works, but it fell apart, and without funding to cover his debt, he filed Chapter 11 and walked away.
Jack-in-the-Box/Del Taco corporate was able to acquire them and are now running them as corporate restaurants, likely while looking for buyers.
Of the approximately 600 locations, about 80% are franchised, the rest are corporate owned.

went back tonight for chicken soft taco Thursday and the word is out--the place was jammed. Even with at least 11 people behind the counter, it took almost 20 minutes to get my cheapy chicken soft tacos. Once I got them, they were great, but I don't know if this store is ready for prime time. Yes, this was during the "dinner rush" time, but the restaurant never had this problem before--with far fewer people working.
It's discount chicken taco night--probably should assume lots of people are going to be ordering them... Also, the drive-through looked like a chick-fil-a--lots of folks backed up
Hopefully they get it worked out

Recently drove by the very first Del Taco in Barstow CA.
It was called Casa Del Taco.
First thought was...I bet the food was good back then.
