Does anyone know if the sun will rise tomorrow if the Gov. shuts down?
Our active duty grandson isn't real thrilled about paycheck interruptions.
Yes BOB will return. BUT I AM curious about our quick Form4 responses times. :(
Ugh, I just submitted a Form 1 tonight!
The world is coming to an end!
'They' were saying that for Federal workers who get paid this week on the 1st, 2nd or on Friday, their paychecks will be/have been cut and they will get paid.
The next paycheck on the 15th or 16th of November is in Jeopardy(tm) unless some sort of agreement is made before then.
Talk to your bank(s) early if employed. Essentially all prior impactful shutdowns the banks themselves continued to front paychecks.
Because they know it's all political theator. At the end of the day, it becomes unplanned fully-paid time off work for hundreds of thousands of employees.
The gov backpays everything once its resolved, the banks don't lose money because they don't have cascading mortgage faults, overdrafts and chaos. In essense, the banks know it's a fully guaranteed paycheck loan by uncle sam.
There isn't a shutdown that is ever about saving money, it's merely political opportunity for a song and dance.
Both parties are the same when it comes to saving a nickel.
Now... if your bank hasn't sorted it out yet, pay attention to the news and switch banks if you need to, but they will quickly get on board, again.
By the time this was posted, it was already "tomorrow" on Wake Island.
Active Duty will continue to get paid by nearly every bank. Does he have USAA, Navy Fed, or another bank that caters specifically to the military community? If so, he'll be fine. In each of the 3 gov shutdowns since the turn of the century (including the longest ever - 34 days - in 2018), these banks have continued to pay their active duty members because they know they will get backpay from the government.
For federal civilian employees, the final paycheck will be 10 Oct to cover the pay period through 30 Sep. This sucks, but the good news is that it is codified in law (Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019) for all furloughed civilian employees to be paid retroactively once an appropriation is approved.
Good to hear guys, thank you!
the Gov is not truly shut down if they are still taking taxes out of my paycheck.

Has anyone else been tracking all of the Social Media talk from the SNAP/EBT community regarding their plans for this weekend (particularly Saturday) if they don't get their benefits on Saturday?
- I've seen countless videos suggesting the plan to attempt to scan purchases and then present EBT - if nothing is on the card, they'll just walk out with the groceries anyway.
- I've seen videos suggesting a mass run for the door with full carts of food, indicating "they can't stop us all".
- I've also seen videos where they say they'll lay in wait for other shoppers to come out of the store with groceries, and then steal them.
There's suggestions that some grocery &/or mega box stores (like WalMart) will be locking their doors to customers (employees only). All purchases will be required to be online pre-paid where the employees will bring your items out the door for you to pick up.
Has anyone else been hearing any of this? Is anyone planning to avoid shopping or go out with increased threat awareness? Anyone think it's all just hype and little to nothing will occur?
Thoughts.
And just WHO might these people be doing all this talking?
40 million hungry Americans? What could possibly go wrong? Martial law without paying your military?
The big problem will be the low income neighborhoods of the big cities. NY, LA, etc.
Will the police really arrest you for stealing one potato?
Jeffco's website states...
Should have always been required, IMO.

The gov. shut down just gives em another reason to rob, rap, and steal. Not like they haven't been doing it anyways.
Logged in just to say this, though you are polite about it.
Besides we already have this going on, the videos you see are of gangs, sorry large random groups, taking things like jewelry, clothes and such.
NOT potatoes.
So it's PURGE on Friday?!?!?!?
This will be the GREATEST HALLOWEEN EVER.
I'm hesitant to put much faith in social media talk.
Will you see an increase in shoplifting? I'd expect a slight increase.
Social media blowharding has about the predictive accuracy of teenage gamers that promise they are going to "f's someone's mom" vs. those that actually do.
I expect there will be a slight tick upward, mostly from people looking for any excuse to steal and hoping for a broad trend to cover their tracks.
I don't expect much of this in El Paso, Douglas, or Teller Counties (despite the apparent involvement of Colorado Springs Antifa in generating the hit list that included the TPUSA guy assaulted in Boulder).
I also wasn't planning on doing much this weekend outside of some much-needed home maintenance.
People have been running out the store with cartloads of groceries since COVID... typically they fill their cart with steaks, jumbo shrimp, beer, maybe some candy. Happens at least a half dozen times daily at the store I shop at.
I just contacted Hickenlooper and Bennet's offices and simply told them to vote yes on the existing budget.
I urge everyone here to do the same.
I'm hoping they clearly ignore the will of their constituents and get caught doing so.

At the Nascar championship races in Phoenix, there was no fly over, no military color guard and no military recruiting vendors setup in the midway.
Did any of the other sports ball events lack these the past few weeks?
Yes, United did a flyover at one event with one of their 777s to replace the military flyover. If NASCAR really cared, they could have reached out to one of the many veterans groups in Phoenix for a color guard. I felt like NASCAR went the way of many other professional sports when they bent over backwards for the Bubba Wallace "noose" fraud.
You know, conservatives work heavily in the government too.
What if you, in your job, are told they will be taking an arbitrary break from paying you, but you're expected to keep showing up and continuing to work full time, while also covering shifts for those quitting or not showing up, and oh, maybe someday, we'll pay you back (with massive deductions taken out of an improperly calculated check), but also, maybe not, and if you quit, fuck you and any back pay.
Know any fed gov employees or contractors? Pretty sure people like stability and regular paychecks, not chaos, and forced furloughs, for non-specific times, and also with no clarity of if they will even receive backpay.
Facing possibly homelessness or bankruptcy while driving for Uber at minimum wage is probably not how they want to spend "time off".
Most people live paycheck-to-paycheck these days....
In the end the R’s will cave and give the Dems everything they want and we will be on our way to the NEXT shutdown.
The R’s will always get the blame.
?because they have their food uber?d to them once a day or more.
The amount of wasteful spending I see is mind blowing. If you can pay all your bills and want doordash, go forcit. If you door-dash, then want sympathy for not being able to pay your rent, no sympathy is given.

From what I am reading, the impasse hinges on the GOP agreeing to extending the ACA tax credit. In the mean time Cape Canaveral is ordered to only do night time launches due to staffing shortages.
Holy Crap!
WE might agree on something. Sortta.
FWIW: Most? Alot? of the Federal workers I know are still working so this "we are paying them but they aren't working" argument isn't valid. The ones that are furloughed aren't working OR getting paid.
They have received assurances that things like rent/mortgage wont be defaulted and will be allowed to "get caught up" once this clears.
And yes they will receive back pay, but that doesn't make it right or easy.
The Dems have reached a new low: They are truly and without question leveraging all this just to score some sort of point.
They dont give a rats ass about these workers........... they IMMEDIATELY refused a bill that would pay Fed workers during shut downs like this.
They dont care, they just need a win, any sort of win against Trump as so far he's been destroying them.
Despite signing a bill last time to the contrary, hasn't Trump broadly stated that furloughed workers wouldn't be paid? Not disagreeing with you, but just pointing out for all that there's no predictability here in any regard.
Dems are a huge issue, GOP doesn't have clean underwear either.
