Need help with a present.

Some of you may know my wife has colon and liver cancer. Half of her colon has been removed and she still has 3 baseball size tumors in her liver. Chemo kicks her ass, 6 days after treatment, then 5-6 days of being able to get around and function as a mom before get chemo again. FEB. 28 is her 38th birthday and I want to get her something extra cool.
Any ideas would be appeciated.
She doesn't need any jewelry.
We can't do a trip anywhere, always kinda sick all the time.
Guns are not her forte.[Rant1]
She already has a ton of books on the cancer thing.

How about getting her some flowers and taking her out to a nice dinner, ladies love to get dressed up.

A spa day perhaps. I know they have those packages where ya get pampered for 2-6 hours.

Can you find a way to give her a "day off", a day to feel normal, not worry about kids (or just worry about kids), whatever it is she does not get to do that she misses.

Just an idea but my wife likes a day when no one asks what she is doing or when she will be home, what will be for dinner or anything else.

Is there something that she has been talking about that might make her more comfortable around the house? Has she been asking for anything like "If only we had a shelf right here" or something like that? What about a few new outfits or something? Maybe a drive back around some of the places you guys used to go when you first met or something as well.

Sixgun I don't even know what to say about a gift but want you to know while reading your post I got a lump the size of a softball in my throat, and my eyes are welling as I type this. I'm usually very thick skinned and it takes alot to move me emotionally. I read your post to my Wife and she said she would be willing to make your Wife the cake of her choice. She is a superb baker and has asperations of opening a bakery one day. But anyway if your wife has a favorite cake my wife will do her best to make it just to her liking. Your family is in our thoughts. We would also deliver it of course. Our to gift to you and your Wife

I bet she would truly love a day where it is just you and her. maybe even the kids as well if you all aren't together a lot.
Maybe you could make her a nice dinner, her favorite, have the kids help, nice sit down dinner...if it is just you and her, candlelight, her favorite chocolates.

this week is also 5280 week if you want to take her out. Rodizio grill was delicious last night[Beer]

I think chop house also has the deal and several other high end restaurants.

Is there a place you used to take her when you were dating? You know, some place she remembers fondly that you haven't been in a while? That would be my suggestion. If she has a sister or close girlfriend, you might ask her if there is anything your wife might have mentioned she wants or would like...

Once again, Carole and I's prayers are with you two. Try and find out if she would prefer to have the children present for the birthday, or if she would like it to just be you two. Carole's racking her brain to try and think of something, but her first thought was no on the spa treatment. Obviously, all women are different. Just trying to get one's opinion for you. She's had her own battles with immune disorders.

As far as a day off, I put my guns aside and do just about everything. Everything she used to do,yoga,work out she can't do now.
Doesn't want to go out to eat because she can't eat very much and gets sick afterwards.
Sniper7 when you said 5280 week, I was like 5280 armory having a sale. I'm there.[Muaha] I still have a one track mind.
Flowers, we get weekly from friends and family.

Well, I would write a poem. Dont focus on getting words the rhyme. Just get the words down. You dont lack inspiration, tell her how she makes you feel. Put it in a simple envlope and give it to her.

You know, looking at the photos, you guys love the outdoors. I'm sure she doesn't have a great deal of strength, but what about some sort of outing. Just a thought, Seven Falls down here in the Springs, or Garden of the Gods. If she would require a wheel chair, the hills aren't too difficult to get her around. Perhaps if she just really likes one mountain town, take her there.

Think of your feelings for her.
How many ways she has improved your life.
Write it down.
Announce it publicly.

I did this a "few" years ago.
I put it in the "public notice" section of the newspaper.
Here it is over 30 years later, and she just made reference to it a bit ago. Must have made an impression. But considering the high cost of the newspapers these days, I would probably opt for putting it in the Thrifty Nickel or something like that.

I know you said no trips.......but.
My wife likes to go to the hot tubs up in Idaho Springs.
The private rooms of course.
Kicking back for an hour or so, with hot soothing water. Ahhhhhh
Well, to be honest, I like it too.
Thinking about surprising her with this, this weekend.

Sorry to hear about your wife's cancer- dad went through it - stay tough!

My idea:A 2 day thing over a weekend

Day 1 - Family day! - have a (pseudo) suprise birthday party for her - you do it all - cook-clean-invite friends and family and have a day just for her to visit and laugh with her friends and family.... (serve (potent) margaritas! - if that is your thing)
Day 2: Movie day: Rent a bunch of movies the next day and decompress with her - just the two of you (and kids if you like) - pop popcorn - cuddle - enjoy each other - top it off with a bowl of baskin robbins world class chocolate ice cream - a massage for her - then... (really if you do this right... she falls asleep in your arms and then... take a moment for youself and thank God for the blessing she is to you).
Make sure to kiss her and tell her how much you appreciate her and all her efforts to make you marriage/life/etc work.
Again - remember how lucky you feel to have her in your life and imagine what you would be without her...
It sucks - (I only know my situation - not yours...)
Cherish the moments you have and hope for more.
Pop fought for 7 years - what a trooper - we were so proud. But he had something incurable - from Vietnam and the Agent Orange...

Take her out get away from the house, doesn't have to be anything to fancy, just a chance to be free from the reminders. Little things can make a big difference in time's like this. Make sure if you visit with others you know that they are breifed ahead of time that there is to be no discussion of health issues unless she brings them up. Let it be a day just like it was before she was diagnosed if she will let you. I know it doesn't sound like much.

My wife and I dont usually do gifts for each other but, this year I decided to get her something she mentioned a long time ago and has never purchased for herself for some reason. An electric heated blanket. It was not super expensive, and she LOVED/LOVES it!!!! Man I should have thought of that sooner. She carries it back and forth from the couch to the bed every night. She still tells me everyday how happy she is with it. It should make your wife more comfortable if shes always cold like mine. [Beer]

Having been in the Medical field for 30 years I know it is the little things that count. I have also had 2 family members go through chemo and I fully understand that it is no fun.

The one above offers a lunch with some of the packages. As long as you inform them what her needs are as it pertains to food and sensitivity to certain chemicals and physical limitations they can tailor there package around her.

Just a thought.
