Paintings of Nadia, Jack and Scooter were also on the cover of a book by Kimberly Santini...the artist who paints "A Dog A Day" for animal charities(www.paintingadogaday.blogspot.com) but I can't remember the name of the book.
- Chloe is almost 17 - our only non-rescue. We got her when she was 8 weeks old. Our first Terrier and my first "little dog" experience. She changed my mind about little dogs. Of course, if you know Jack Russells you know they're really big dogs trapped in little dog bodies.
- Stella (my gunshop dog for 8 years at Bailey Guns) is closing in on 16. She's my best buddy in the whole world. She was featured in the book "Hear All Creatures" by Karen Anderson.
- Nadia is about 13. Great little dog...abandoned at my gunshop by her owners. She chases the C130 fire-suppression planes that fly over our house a couple of times a week. Knowing her, she'll eventually catch one. Quite the hunter/killer Terrier.
- Jack (our little deaf guy) is about 12. When we rescued him from Evergreen Animal Protective League he was going blind and needed eye surgery. I told my wife if he went blind we could just change his name to "Helen". About 4 years post-surgery and his vision is fine. He still can't hear.
- Lola ("Her name was Lola, she was a show dog"...for all you Barry Manilow fans!) is about 3.5 years old - we rescued her hours before she was to be sent to the gas chamber at a shelter in NM.
- And finally there's little Woody...about 2 years old and our most recent rescue from Intermountain Humane Society. His real name is Haywood Jablowme. My wife makes me call him Woody.
- Scooter (Oct 94 - Jan 09)...was Chloe's little boy. We lost him to kidney failure a year ago.
They keep us pretty busy.

I have a Dog. Hes a ten year old Norwegian Elkhound named Riggs. Best dang dog I ever met. Patient, exceedingly gentle with the kids, loyal and noble friend, and defender of my home and family... Good boy!
My wife has two cats. Yuck. I don't mean to offend anybody, but cats are disgusting. I will say that we haven't had much of a problem with mice in the house because of the cats, but I guess I'm just more of a dog person.

All my life I have had big dogs (ie...German Shepards, Labs, pits, etc...) Recently my wife and I got a Pomeranian/Shih Tsu/Maltese mix. This breed is a "designer" breed, only one breeder here in the states. After a few months of trying to get used to such a small dog around the house, I fell for the little thing. Her name is Lola and is full grown at 12lbs!! Luckily, she doesn't realize that she is a small dog, and plays just as rough as any Lab I ever had. She may not be much a hunting dog, but she is a trained ZOMBIE DEATH SQUAD member!!

Also have a cat that weighs about 27lbs, and is worthless IMHO. Damn thing is so fat she can't clean herself and walks around with cat shit hanging off her ass. Stupid cat.
that is the same type of dog my mom has he acts like he is a big dog it is quit funny. i am more of a big dog guy i want a lab or somthing some day. we have a cat as well he is an ass but a good hunter has no front claws and still kills rabbits and mice easly. i think its wrong to have a cat that is bigger than your dog, oh well not my dog!Quote:

I built a cat box in the garage, and put a hole in the wall to the hallway. It's a 4x2x2 foot box with a clear plexiglass top. I put a HEPA filter in it, with a computer muffin fan pulling air out of the box, through the filter. This means the smell goes into the garage, through the filter. I had a cat for a long time when I couldn't have a dog. I didn't go looking for one, he kinda found me. Big gray tabby that the person who sort of unloaded him on me named Sarge. He was a great cat, mostly because he acted more like a dog. Came when I called him and everything. After my wife and I got married, we got three dogs over the course of a couple years and as they were all pups when we got them, they were accustomed to him being around. There were times all three dogs and the cat were asleep in a pile together. I'm down to one of those dogs, and the cat died about 6 years ago. I'm not doing another cat, as I won't find another one like him. No cats, no rodents. The kids know the drill.
1 Beagle, 1 Beagle/Golden mix (both rescues), 1 insanely "social" fox and 1 herd of 11 Mule's here. The Mule's rotate out and two Elk herds replace them in the warm season. We consider all of them ours these days,
Below is the crazy fox hangin' on the deck. I can literally "call" for this little goof-ball and he stops what he's doing and comes runnin' right away, loves hangin' out with me (I never violate protocol re: food, etc. either). I've seen his lady quite often as well but she's a little more shy. I'm expecting a full family in a couple more months. Below is a few of the other creatures.

I do not feed him Stuart, as hard as it is I don't violate anything with respect to the wild-life around my place. I do suspect someone else on the hill may or may have though. This guy showed-up ~4 months ago and and was just way too accepting to believe other-wise. I did catch him snagging a few rougue dog kibbles in my garage one day though.Quote:

I would not recommend that. A few years ago we had a family that used to play on the front lawn of the Hospital at Ft Carson. I would stop on my way inside @ 4.30am and watch them. They would get within about 20' after a few weeks but mainly just played in the snow.Quote:

Yea sorry, no offense, but I can't stand cats. Had lot of them (well, my mother did) growing up, and I grew sick of them.
I have a wonderful Border Collie now, he is my best friend, probably my only friend. Sucks though, he's kinda gun shy.
My wife and I are dog people. I lost my English Mastiff to bone cancer last year and my Pitbull I rescued over a decade ago to various cancers just 3 days ago. :( Im down to one dog for the first time in forever now. My girl now is a 2 year old Bullmastiff I rescued a couple months before my English Mastiff died. I love her, she is super funny and is more obedient than any dog Ive ever had. I want another one but my wife is saying no-go for now. We'll have to see how long that lasts. [Coffee]

He is a very smart dog... one example: He is deaf - so we 'talk' through sign language...
if you are trying to tell him something he doesn't like - or doesn't want to do...
he will look away from you as if to say "Sorry, not looking, can't hear you. Try back later."

She is a real sweetheart - the quietest of the bunch - till food o'clock - them she finishes hers and goes and tries to take the other cats food.
