Whats with all the quakes lately? and they are hitting closer and closer to home. anyone know if Colorado is a "hot spot" like St Louis is?
As I understand it, quakes were pretty common in the Springs when NORAD was being built. Apparently they were dumping waste water into a crevice in the Earth...pressure would build up, and there would be a quake...after a few, they stopped doing it.
It seems like they are coming up the west coast doesn't it. First Chile, then this one.
More earthquakes as well as more volcanic activity.
Must be due to global warming. Yeah, that's it.
Actually, the fault they were pumping crap into was the Old Golden Fault near Rocky Flats. There were several earthquakes in the 5.5 to 6.5 range back in the mid 60s, and historical records going back into the early 1840s.
The quakes seem to be working their way around the Pacific ring of fire. Makes sense, tectonic plates moving...
Naw,, too logical.. Gotta be solar flares winding through a wormhole at ludicris speed, swinging past the the clouds of Tatooine,, Thus taking a direct course for the nearest polar bear. The reflection off the fur causing the ice cap to self destruct.. Thus,,,, Damn,,Where was I...
Havent you heard?!?

Bro, when they move they just go where they want, and everyone pays attention to where they go.
BTW, all mountains ranges are suseptable to earth quakes and volcanos. We are just lucky and live in a mountain range that's 6 million years old and has pretty much stabilized. There's some recent scientific info out there that suggests the Rockies were once higher in elevation than the Himalayas, but have eroded to their current elevations. We're safe here short of Yellowstone completing one of it's 640,000 year super-volcano cycles. That happens, the S will have HTF for us all.
Oh ya, forgot...
If the super-volcano does go off, the US govt might declare martial law[Poke].
I could be wrong but i dont think there is a fault lines near us.
There are several fault lines near us.
When they were building the Colorado Mills Mall there were a bunch of small earth quakes at our house. I kept telling my mom about them and she didn't believe me. One day she was home when one happened and she yelled, "What the FUCK was that?!" I said, "I told you!"
Shortly after that was when some nearby houses in the neighborhood started sliding down the mountain and developed huge cracks.

Colorado Earthquake Information
Geologic studies indicate there are about 100 potentially active faults Colorado and more than 400 earthquake tremors of magnitude 2.5 or higher have occurred in Colorado since 1870...
damn! There goes my dig in plan.
I think you're thinking of the Rockey Mountain Arsenal, which is now a wildlife preserve just outside Denver. It had been one of the largest chemical weapon repositories. When they started getting rid of these chemical weapons, they decided the best solution would be to pump them deep underground. Why they thought that was a good idea, I do not know. It reportedly caused earthquakes.
Here's the Wikipedia entry, it's pretty fascinating: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountain_Arsenal
When we lived within a mile of the the Golden Fault which runs generally all the way to Yellowstone I called my insurance agent about earthquake insurance. He thought I was nuts until I explained about the fault. Now we both carry it. It's cheap peace of mind at $75 per year. We recenttly moved farther east but I still carry it.
Uh, look at our mountains sometime. What do you think caused them to rise up? They weren't always "just there".
Back when I was in school and taking classes about plate techtonics and stuff, I remember one book talking about mountains like glaciers. Saying that they are similar because all crust is over a liquid layer, so when a mountain erodes, it also is lighter and "floats up" to compensate for the amount of erosion. That always seemed like an over simplification of things, and I kind of doubt that it really works that way.
I know not everyone here is religious, but I'm just throwing this out there.
Mathew 24:3-8
3: As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"
4: Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5: For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. 6: You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7: Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8: All these are the beginning of birth pains.
Except that earthquakes have been happening since the beginning of time on this planet, and will continue until the end of time on this planet.
True, but the original poster commented on his perception of increasing frequency.
Like I said. Just throwing it out there, not even presenting as truth in my own opinion.
I had to google the exact text so of course it's KJV and not something readible like NIV, "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but my Father only." So every time I hear some televangelist say, "the end times are near, donate to my show so god likes you", I think of this verse.
The crucial factor is, obviously, his perception of the earthquakes.

If you don't factor in the dramatic increase in seismic monitors, you can get a skewed graph that looks like earthquakes are increasing. Factoring that in, it looks pretty consistent.
Unlike the mountains in CA, which were formed by one plate being forced under the other, the Rockies were formed by buckling in the center of a plate caused by pressure from both side. This buckling also puts the "hot liquid magma" closer to the surface. That's what Stewart's teacher was talking about.
Man, I watch way too much Discovery and History channels...
If earth quakes start happening in Africa, then it is time to be concerned.
He is just saying that they were formed a little differently, not saying that there wouldn't be an earthquake.
Cool... check the last 30 days...

Long story short,, I was in Alaska in '73, 9 years after the "big one" as they called it up there.. Looking out over Earthquake park onto the Cook inlet, The Guy that was friends with My brother, said that He just happened to be in the right spot at the time,, and saw the whole inlet empty when it hit..

Matthew 24:34
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
Thessalonians 5:1
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
Like any text, the meaning has to be taken in context of the whole.
