That's all I hear when that guy who lives at the whitehouse speaks. Well that and broken promises and lies. He says that in 2.5 weeks 90 percent of the oil spill will be cleaned up and that he's pushing for an accelaration in clean energy. Also, says that BP is going to pay for everything including the people who lost their jobs and companies who lost work. I thought he had good ties with BP and thought they did their crooked ways together!
Its going to take more then 2 and a half weeks to clean up. He is such a fucking tool.

Oh come on guys 21/2 weeks and a few billion randomly thrown around can solve anything. Just as long as the Federal Government runs it we will be just fine.

What I don't understand is if he could solve 90 percent of the oil spill in 2.5 weeks, how come he didn't solve this 2.5 weeks ago? This guy just keeps proving that he lies and people still follow him...what a bunch of morons!!
I understand that his strategy for cleaning up the spill will require direct action on behalf of himself, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Since we all know they suck so much, well.... you fill in the rest.

I call bull on this whole situation... Get a couple of engineering grad kids from any major college (not even ivy league) and this would've already been taken care of.
If it were that easy, then it never would have made the news. Let's be realistic.

I am being realistic. I know it's not "easy" and Lord knows I don't have a degree in petroleum engineering, etc... But, almost anything makes the news these days so I don't put too much stock in that. BP is getting a lot of press out of this (good or bad doesn't really matter). Any press can be made to work for you. There is a lot of money and beaucracy holding things up as well, a lot of money.... I feel like BP should have realized early on that they were going to look bad either way, don't bother with any down playing and get to work. Perhaps I'm wrong though. Correct and I agree. Someone would not purposely lose their product. However, that is not the issue. The issue is plugging the leak of which is being stalled by a myriad of reasons, some logical, some stupid. All I am trying to say is that this whole thing is stupid. Take out the press/money/beaucracy/"it's your fault"/activists/PCness/etc and let some engineers at it, it'd be capped and forgotten into the black hole that seems to be America's memory.Quote:

These are not mutually exclusive. The US uses 20 million barrels of oil a day. Just the US! There is "Up to 100k barrels of oil a day" leaking into the gulf, 57 days, that's 5.7M barrels of oil. So the leak so far has put less than a quarter of one days consumption by the US into the Gulf. There are ~3800 oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.Quote:

Logic fail. Same "logic" that Sarah Palin used to suggest this was a reason to drill in ANWR. It's perfectly reasonable to drill in deep water, provided you adhere to safety precautions. Methods tried and their failure -
1. Robotic subs to trigger the blowout preventer
- failed as the cause of leak was a mechanical failure in the valve system
2. Idiotic containment dome
- dome just stopped surface spread... does nothing for the millions of gallons under water
3. Top hat or cap on leak
- too much internal pressure to hold cap underwater
4. Insertion tube
- can't forge to lower rig where leak is occuring
5. Top kill
- leak is under water... at the bottom, not on top
6. Junk shot
- with pressure, can't fill gap
7. "New and improved" containment cap
- new and improved piece of crap
8. Relief wells
- these are dangerous but they are working to some extent in capturing some of the released oil... which will still give BP profits on the oil....
And I'm sure there are some faults with this list. They are jus the ones that come to the top of the head. If they really wanted to, they could plug it. But even with BP taking responsibility and saying they pay for clean up... it won't cut into their profits. It's all about teh money honey.

Those methods have to be pretty costly for them to think it's a better deal to watch their share value crash, agree to put $20 billion in escrow to pay compensation and watch their good name (as much as an oil company has a good name) get tarnished while they look for a cheaper solution.Quote:

Lastly, I'm not assuming that they are taking their swet time because they don't need the money or it won't hurt them. What I'm assuming is that some suit is not listening to their engineers. With todays technology, there is no reason that the spill/leak should not have been stopped by now. I guess what I'm saying is that the world is so dependant on oil (and please believe all the companies are intertwined) that the big companies don't have to worry about "their name" as again: it's all about the money, and they ain't losing any on this spill.

I think the shadiest thing going on here is that neither BP nor the government has owned up to the fact that the leak can't be plugged, and our only hope is the relief wells manage to intersect the failed well below the leak point. That's August at best, and unlikely to hit with the first try.

Something else will get the media's attention soon enough and we can all go into ignore mode, assume the problem got fixed, and not hear about it again for a while just like we do with everything else.
