Ya it sounds really good! I would go for it!
How long do these last past the date?
Make sure they are real MRE's not the fake ones.
I just picked up two cases, A & B for $42 each, inspection dates 10/11, pretty good. Just make sure they have kept them in a climate controlled environment. Even in the garage in Colorado is going to decrease their shelf life significantly.
That being said, I went camping last weekend and ate MRE's from 2001 which were pretty damn tasty :). Of course I throw all my MRE's in a deep freeze as soon as I get them (supposedly increases shelf life another 5-10 years).
Depends on the temperature. Typical life is 11 years at 60 degrees. So if these were packed recently and kept cool then they have a long time ahead of them.
P.S. - Don't eat 10 year old MRE cheese, it looks like it came out of the bowels of a goat and smell about the same.
I dont think it is that bad
Any good Ranger would have done it. You just have to be hungry enough. Besides I know I have eaten a lot of spoiled MRE cheese that has turned from the georgia heat.
Yes, I agree, but you said the key phrase: "you have to be hungry enough". I'll eat bugs and 10 year old cheese and be happy for it, IF I'm hungry enough - but voluntarily when I have a choice to eat something else, I'm going for something else. I've eaten more than my fair share of bugs and seriously nasty stuff, I'm done with that until it's time to rely on it.
That's a good deal-give us a follow up after you see them. [Beer]
Typical RANGER......
Fancy 550 Cord knots and braiding, and wont make a move until they see if it's in 21-76!!!
If you were Armor then it would not be crappy enough to coat my Old School Chicken A La King!!!!
Just kidding.
When your hungry anything is good. Just watch out for bulging or leaky MRE meals.
Other then that, Enjoy.
Oh, TEXAS PETE Hot Sauce always make any MRE taste better.
Great score man!!!!
Did a few weeks at Camp Rogers in Benning back in 95 for the Inf. Leaders Course. First Scout Plt. to ever go through the course.
Boy, Victory Drive was the place to be back then. When I went to school early 07 that place was a bombed out shell of a road!!!!!!
Ranger Handbook:Foot Patrol
Place left foot with boot on one step in front of you.
Now repeat with Right foot (Other foot with boot).
Repeat until PL gives you one of a thousand approved hand signals. Follow Hand Signal.
Continue until Patrol is complete.
Just curious where you got the pack date of 2008. It looks like the pack date is 0073, which I would expect to be the 73rd day of 2010, which would be March 14. Then the inspect date says 3/11, which would make sense to inspect a year later. Not positive that's the way it is, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
MRE's are typically stamped to inspect 3 years after the pack date, so 2008 sounds about right. At least this is how it's been for me. The 0073 is confusing though because that should be 2000, I don't think that's a 2010 date code, but again I could be wrong as I'm going off what my experience has been.
First, a link to the seller if you are in the area and interested...

Second, the date questions....
Looking at this site...

I think they 2008, the pictures are not clear but I just verified the first digit is an 8, not a zero and that fits with the 3 year inspection date.
I found some C-Rats out in the desert on Ft. Bliss in 1980 that had been packed in 1952. Used my P-38 and ate them. Still fine.
The transition to MRE's was great. I really like MRE's especially compared to Beef with Spice Sauce.
I am a lover of the Pesto Penne Pasta - YUM!
