Skateboard tape will work. I had the Hogue "rubberband" slip on on mine and it worked well. I dont recall what size it was and I had to trim the band for the grip safety but it did ok. If you go that route use a little Windex on the band-it will help it slide on a ton easier.

I've used this on my Glocks for years. Cheap, precut, and the grit isn't as aggressive as skateboard tape.

Pricey, but outstanding work and service....
Innertube.

I vote grip tape, bought at a skate board shop local to me... 5 bucks.
thanks for all the replies... i think i will go find some skateboard shops for now. trugrip looks really nice too though.
I have Trugrip on my G22, highly recommend it.

There's these XD specific ones, you can get the sandpaper type and the rubber ones, ThunderJohn is a great guy to deal with also..

I use skaters tape on the front strap only for XDs and 1911s. The local hardware store carries it in different widths. I've tried it on the back strap of the XDs but it doesn't work as well. Never been a fan of tape on the side panels.
Here is what i have done. I bought some grip tape at a skate shop, traced out my patent, and cut it out. It's pretty sweet. I really like it. Now that I have my own patent if anyone needs them, let me know.

Probably more permanent than you're looking for, but I took a dremmel sanding drum to mine and got rid of the waffle bumps then followed it up with a few hours of quality time with a woodburning tool. End result is permanent built in grip tape. I'll try and remember to snap a pic of it, but it looks good and feels 100% better.
Try out some talon grips. I have them on a glock 22. If you dont like them you're only out 10 bucks.
Just weighing in on some other options - I've used ace bandage in the past on my glock, as well as innertube. Ultimately, I spent $5 at Harbor Freight for a woodburning kit, and stippled. If you can work up the nerve, I recommend stippling.
I have the same issues with my "Winter Carry" XD's.
Those rascally pistols are a tad slippery.
Went out and picked up a Pachmayer Tactical Grip Glove for my XD-45 and it made quite an improvement.
I will get another for my 40.
Around $15 at Specialty Sports.
I think it was worth it.
I used a die cut grip tape from Cheaper Than Dirt for @ $8 on my G-lock[Tooth] 27 and Im happy with the grip. Only used the right hand side so it don't rub my love handles! IM WORKING ON THEM! HAHAHAHA
Helps a bunch.
