Greetings from the PNW

Hello!

Hoping to build relationships with like-minded folks in CO as we plan on relocating to the Western Slope in the next couple of years.

Shoot: Les Baer Concept VII (commander-sized .45acp 1911), H&K USP 9mm Compact (Wife's), DSA STG58C18 (FAL) .308w, Remington 870 Police Magnum, Ruger 10/22 Target.

Looking for: winchester pre 64 308 w/sights, CZ-513 .22lr, a 9mm that my wife really likes to shoot (probably that sig we rented at the range), dillon 550b w/ .45, 9mm, .308w setups.

Interests: Learning, Sustainable living (not because I'm green but because I do not want to rely on the infrastructure for our survival), alternative energy sources, camping, old diesel trucks, figuring out difficult problems, building things.

Yes, I live about 20mins from the Canadian border in NW Washington.

I have been to CO quite a few times and have some property (tundra ; ) near Alamosa. I am interested in relocating to the Western Slopes of the Rockies (From Rifle down to Durango). It'll be a while though as I need to sell my home here and find a job there (also trying to finish school in the next year)...

Right on, I'm originally from Glenwood. I love it over there but it's too small time for me right now. That's why I'm in the Denver metro area.

From a place that gets 42" of rain a year..should be done raining by June ;)

We live in Deming on the way out to Mt. Baker (World Record Snowfall - 1,140 in). We do like it out here but we could do with half the rain.

Glenwood, WA? My kind of place...

I'm looking for "small time" in my life. 10acres, good water supply and regular sun would fit the bill just fine ;)

Glenwood Springs, CO is a little town on the western slope in colorado. Cool little town over where you're looking at.

My father has recently lived in Anacortes, Whidbey Island, and is now down by Oysterville...

Check on water rights when you settle into Colorado- many lots smaller than 35 acres will have a highly restrictive well permit- called a "household permit" that will not allow watering a lawn or livestock

over 35 acres generally gets a "domestic well permit", with much less restrictions (I live on just under 47 acres)

There are some grandfathered exceptions, but water rights can be an issue in rural Colorado...

Not sure how many jobs are available for a network security admin along the Western Slope (WS) - Denver and Colo Spr have a lot of these positions (although I don't think too many are available these days). Perhaps Grand Junction would have more than other WS areas.

I am pretty much done with "IT" work. After 15yrs of doing it, it's time to go back to blue collar for me. I am done chasing the money (the more I made, the worse I felt...). It took me a long time to figure out I wear my heart on my sleeve and not on my wallet.

I am working finishing up my Degree in Process Technology (Plant Operator/Alternative Energy/Power Generation/WasteWater). Looking forward to getting back to getting my hands dirty ; )

Thanks. Not too sure I will end up with a pre-64 .308w (I have not gotten a lot of calls on my right Kidney that I posted on Craigslist [ROFL1] )

Been looking at Mauser Model 98s and Early 70's Winchester Model 70s as well (there are a few more of these floating around).

Welcome! I had family out in Maple Valley until recently. Really nice area, probably the only other part of the country I'd consider living in other than here.
