Saving Private Ryan. I saw it years and years after it came out and couldn't believe I had missed such a great movie. I like stuff like Black Hawk Down and The Kingdom as well, but there is just something about a good WWII movie/story that touches my soul and elicits feelings of patriotism that I didn't even know I had.
Also, my all time favorite post of Hoser's is the one about flying so low across Africa that he had to pull up for giraffes.
Kelly's Heroes is alway a good one...
Where Eagles Dare...
To Hell and Back
Von Ryan's Express
Of course newer ones:
Saving Private Ryan...
Enemy at the Gates
Oh - I saw The Boy in the Striped Pajamas a few weeks ago.. that was moving..
Uncommon Valor.
Cuz "you never give up boy! Not when it's for real"
not really a true war movie, per se but I always liked Heartbreak Ridge.
Galipoli
Before Mel Gibson battled in Thunderdome, killed all the English or just went looney on his Russian girlfriend.
Saving Private Ryan, They were Expendable (John Wayne) - these 2 movies illustrate to me the sacrifice of the men and women who go to war so I can live in peace and comfort.
These aren't movies but HBO has done a couple of great series. Band of Brothers is amazing for the action and the characters. I don't believe The Pacific was as outstanding but is still damned good. My Dad was in the south Pacific, fortunately with MacArthur.
Rent or buy these. You could probably get good deals on DVD sets from places like half.ebay
