The Space Shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after take off.
I was in the 3/502 Battlion aid station, updateing shot records when I heard.

Um... Columbia was a couple years ago, Challenger was 20 years ago today.
It was one of the first few shuttle launches I saw, I was 4 at the time and only kinda knew what was going on.
Columbia, however, brought tears to my eyes. I always felt an attachment to it cause it first launched the year I was born.
Rest In Peace, both crews. May you forever explore the Heavens.
ETA: someone linked http://www.prometheus-music.com/audio/fireinthesky.mp3 that at another site.
Still gives me chills to think about that day. Yikes 20 years have passed, I was a sophmore in high school... if I remember right I was in English class and it was right at the break, we were all watching the launch. It was and is a sad day.
Columbia hit me pretty hard too. I've always had an affinity for the space program and the brave men and women who are a part of it.
RIP...
I was on Ft Ord in my arms room having an IG inspector do his annual inspection thing when we heard it on the radio.
I was at work when a customer came in and said "The Columbia blew up!" Since he was one of those that usually smells of booze and tells stories I naturally figure he was full of shit.
Until I got home and turned on the news.
I was 4. I have no idea what I was doing but it probably had something to do with building blocks, trucks, guns, bow and arrows, or army guys....
I was two, I have no memory whatsoever.

I was in the navy stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS America CV-66. We were getting ready to go to sea, or had just pulled out. Within a few weeks of that, we "crossed the line of death" and attacked Libya. :P Karl.
I was home on leave, I had just PCS'd from Germany. I was watching it live from my mom and dad's business. I remember it clearly, and when it blew up I was dumbfounded. :(
I was a Sophomore at Texas A&M and just got back to the dorm from my morning classes. The guy next door came over and asked me if I had heard the news.
I was a senior in highschool and the principle came over the intercom and told us about it. In my senior year book there is the famous picture of the explosion.
I remember it well also. I was doing a walk through of a building that we bidding on for a mill tailing removal job in Grand Junction. The TV was in the reception area and me the other contractors and the people from Bendix just stood dumbfounded watching the coverage.
I remember that I was monitoring the satellite TV system for my high school and was actually the only one onsite that saw it happen live. I've never forgotten it and never will.
Thanks to all the men and women that support and take the risks that afford such achievements.
watched it on tv @ work in the bookeepers office. isn't it amazing what we see as it happens sometimes...........
I was six at the time living in Satellite Beach Florida. Everyone at my school was dismissed to the playground to watch the launch. There was a female teacher from our area on board this mission. Alot of tears were shed that day.
